Obama: “America is no longer what it once was” posted at 11:25 am on August 7, 2008 by Ed Morrissey Send to a Friend | printer-friendly When presidential candidates answer questions from children about why they want the job, most will give an answer that uplifts the child and the candidate. Not Barack Obama. At a campaign stop in Elkhart, Indiana, a seven-year-old girl asked the Democrat why he wants to be President — and he told her that America has gone downhill:“America is …, uh, is no longer, uh … what it could be, what it once was. And I say to myself, I don’t want that future for my children.” Sound familiar? Michelle Obama sounded similar themes ...

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama told a seven year old girl he was running for president because America had changed at a recent campaign stop. “America is …, uh, is no longer, uh … what it could be, what it once was. And I say to myself, I don’t want that future for my children,” he told supporters in Elkhart, Indiana. Roll the tape: H/T Hot Air where Ed Morrissey is linking videos of Obama's wife, Michelle, saying similar things.
So Senator Obama, When Was The Last Time America Met Your High Standards?
Ace of Spades HQ —
So Senator Obama, When Was The Last Time America Met Your High Standards? Gee, I wonder why McCain's " The One " ad resonated with so many people. That video is swiped from Hot Air which has a rundown on the Obama's (Michelle's too) history of pointing out America's deficiencies and The One's manifest ability to heal them. Unfortunately for Obama America has a fairly long history of rejecting African America , arrogant and liberal candidates who run down their country. Just ask Jimmy Carter how he enjoyed his second term or Walter Mondale, Michale Dukakis and John Kerry how they liked being President at all.
Barack Obama Channels Michelle Obama-- "America Is Not What It Once Was"

You're all just downright mean. Face it. Off the cuff... Barack sounds a lot like his wife Michelle. He doesn't want to raise his daughters in today's America: Transcipt via HotAir: "America is..., uh, is no longer, uh... what it could be, what it once was. And I say to myself, I don’t want that future for my children." (But, be assured that Barack can change all of that!) It sounds like Michelle is rubbing off on him, or vice versa: Michelle sounded off about ...
Obama: I Want to Be President Becase America Isn't What It Once Was
News —
Obama: I Want to Be President Because America Isn't What It Once Was In Elkhart, Indiana, a seven-year-old girl asked Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama Wednesday why he wanted to be president. His response: Because America is going downhill. “America is no longer what it could be, what it once was," Obama told her. "And I say to myself, I don’t want that future for my children.” Obama has already drawn fire for the comment from conservative bloggers, who have compared it to his wife's remark that she was proud of her country "for the first time in [her] adult life." - Katie Stapleton-Paff
No More Mister Nice Blog — ZOMG!!!! OBAMA SAID AMERICA IS SOMETIMES BETTER THAN IT IS AT OTHER TIMES!!!! Somebody must have had to fetch a double dose of smelling salts for Hot Air's Ed Morrissey -- he's freaking out (as are others on the right) over a campaign clip in which Barack Obama tells a child at a campaign appearance, America is …, uh, is no longer, uh … what it could be, what it once was. And I say to myself, I don't want that future for my children. On YouTube the clip is titled "Barack Obama To Little Girl: America's Not So Great." Er, kids? If it's not permissible to say that America is less great at some moments than it ...

Kid Asks Hussein Why Be President? Answer Should Freak You Out

If the answer he gave doesn’t make you walk into the voting booth and vote McCain no matter what; or if you decide to sit home and not vote and allow this…this maniac to be President, then Louie’s Uncle Louie is coming to your house to gore you with his tusks.

Obama: America sucks, unless you elect me President
Stop The ACLU —
Isn’t that just the message you want him telling your seven-year-old when she asks him why he wants to be President? In Elkhart, Indiana, that’s the question that was posed to Barack Obama. And here’s what he answered: Transcript: America, uh, is… is no longer… uh… what it, it could be, what it once was. And I say to myself, I don’t want that future for my children. It amazes me still that someone who as accomplished as much as Barack Obama has could look at the country that made it possible and see something so bleak. Is America perfect? No , and no one says that it is. However, America is still the freest, most generous country in the world. It is the last, best hope ...

25 Reasons You May Be A Racist
Pat Dollard | Young Americans —
by Peter Kirsanow - (NRO)
The tendency of Obama supporters to see racist impulses behind every criticism of their candidate has evolved into absurdity. Now even the first black president feels compelled to declare he’s not a racist. By this measure, nearly every American is at risk of being branded a racist at some point in the campaign. To assess whether you’re at risk just consult the list below ( apologies to Jeff Foxworthy ):
1.If you think Obama’s the most liberal member of the senate you…may be a racist.
2.If you object to Obama raising your payroll, capital gains and estate taxes ...

"Why Do You Want to be President?"
blonde sagacity —
A question posed to each Presidential hopeful --and one you would think they would be prepared for... This is how Barack Hussein responded to a 7 year old girl that asked the question: "...Appearing before a packed high school gym in Elkhart, Ind., the young girl asked Obama why he is running for the White House. "America is, is no longer, uh, what it could be, what it, it once was," Obama said haltingly. "And I say to myself, I don't want that future for my children." Interesting clip. One response is to say it's awfully negative, especially for talking to a little girl. But Obama has 2 little daughters. He should know how to talk to them. Are we not supposed to let kids see that we know that the world isn't perfect? What's striking to me is that Obama didn't try harder to defend himself against the predictable accusations that he doesn't love America enough — accusations that were especially predictable after the things his opponents said about his Berlin speech. Perhaps Obama was actually being honest and respectful of the child's real competence. ...

Media Mostly MIA on Obama's 'America Not What It Once Was' Downer Delivered to 7 Year-Old
NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias —
This doesn't qualify as any kind of surprise, but it should be noted nonetheless.
Thursday, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama gave a stunningly downbeat assessment of the nation's overall situation in a response to a seven year-old girl who asked him why he is running for president. Obama's media water-carriers have virtually ignored his very telling response, one that is reminiscent of Jimmy Carter's gloomiest, malaise-based assessments of America during his awful presidency.
Here is a rundown of what happened from Ed Morrissey of Hot Air (direct YouTube link to relevant video is here):

Brainster's Blog — Sheehan Qualifies for Ballot [image] Run, Cindy, run ! Of course, it was a comedy of errors: The collection of signatures by Sheehan's campaign was more exciting than usual. On Wednesday, the campaign was well short of the 10,198 signatures needed to get on the ballot after San Francisco elections officials found that more than 40 percent of the people who signed weren't registered in the city's Eighth Congressional District. Forty percent. Wow. That seems like a pretty high rejection rate.

We've had some fun here at The Ticket in recent months over Barack Obama's 57-state remark and his promise to meet with the president of Canada and his shouted greeting to one city when he was actually in another. (Yes, and John McCain's and Sam Nunn's shared fondness for good old Czechoslovakia.)

In the second major poll to show a catastrophic drop in that period, the LAT survey shows registered voters registering only a 2-point lead for Obama over John McCain in a head-to-head contest, and only one point when Ralph Nader and Bob Barr get considered. McCain has overcome the enthusiasm gap and has defined the central issue as experience and leadership: When ...
