Boehner 'releases the hounds' on the stimulus
News —
Boehner 'releases the hounds' on the stimulus House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) released a web video Thursday in which the Ohio Republican lightheartedly releases hounds to find jobs Boehner asserts were not created by President Obama's stimulus package earlier this year. The video, released at the height of the Fourth of July recess, comes as the Labor Department released its latest unemployment numbers, showing the economy losing 467,000 jobs in June, raising the unemployment rate to 9.5 percent. "This is a lighthearted web video, but the underlying point is no laughing matter," Boehner said in a statement about the video. ...
Boehner Video Stars "Job-Sniffing Bloodhound" To Whack Obama
The Huffington Post | Full News Feed —
The loss of 467,000 jobs in June, driving the national unemployment rate to 9.5 percent, is unwelcome news for the Obama administration, which has spent half a year trying to turn the tide of the economic downfall. Already the president has conceded that 10 percent unemployment is likely in America's future. But the job front remains a particular vulnerability for this White House -- the one major chink in the Obama armor, far more politically delicate than the president's handling of foreign affairs or health care.
And so, it shouldn't come as a surprise that within minutes of their release, Obama's political opponents turned the ...

New GOP ad: The stimulus isn’t working posted at 6:32 pm on July 2, 2009 by Allahpundit Send to a Friend | Share on Facebook | printer-friendly From Boehner’s office, an odd, hokey first effort at pushing a meme that could deliver the House to the GOP if it’s still true next November. There’s too much in the way here to focus on the message — split-screen, soundtrack, cornpone narrator, barking dogs — but they’ll get the tone right eventually. They’ve got plenty of time: Even Team Barry knows that things are going to get worse before they get better. But the trend Thursday’s numbers represent should concern Democrats. While many ...

You make hokey, silly ads like this one. Look, a couple folks from the South may chuckle at it, but to the rest of America it just makes the GOP out to be the Southern goobers so many of us think. Next time fellas, a little less Gomer Pyle, a little more Sheriff Andy. ...

America Losing Hope in Obama’s Change Posted on July 2, 2009 The latest Rassmussen poll was taken before we hit the new 9.5 unemployment numbers! Basically, the trust in Obama on the ecomonmy is dropping like a rock. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 33% of the nation’s voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-five percent (35%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -2. This is the third straight day the Approval Index has been below zero (see trends). Nicely Done, GOP Ad People!
The Sundries Shack —
This made me laugh. I agree with Allah that it’s hokey but I also agree that they’ll hit the right tone quickly enough. It’s not like they don’t have plenty of material and a year or so to sharpen the humor before the next election. But I did think it was funny. That bit about Rusty’s Backwater Saloon was very nice. Next time, if they want to put John Boehner in the commercial, they need to toss out the overused slogans (”neither have the American people”, “runaway spending in Washington”) and loosen him up a bit. He could be very effective in ads like these, but he has to get used to speaking like he’s on the House floor or doing a standup on CNN. ...

What Was That About Jobs, Madam Speaker?
Pajamas Media —
After pitching new spending programs as job creation, the horrendous unemployment numbers spell trouble for Dems. [image] Nancy Pelosi said in her final pitch on the cap-and-trade bill that it was all about four words: “jobs, jobs, jobs and jobs.” Unfortunately for her and the president, not a week after the massive energy tax was pushed through, the unemployment numbers went through the roof. In June, 465,000 ...

NEW G.O.P. AD: The Stimulus Isn’t Working. But will this dog hunt? Well, polls show Obama losing more ground on the economy, so the targeting’s good. (”Only the youngest voters support him on fiscal policy, and only barely, 52%-46%. Every other age demographic above 30 years of age has majorities now showing disapproval.”) What about the execution? Decide for yourself.

GOP Ad: With the Obama Unemloyment at 9.5%--Where Are the Jobs?
Gateway Pundit —
House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today released a new web video targeting Washington Democrats’ trillion-dollar “stimulus” bill and asking “where are the jobs?” The tongue-in-cheek web video, inspired by a classic 1984 TV commercial by now-Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), features a job-sniffing GOP bloodhound named Ellie Mae and a down-home voiceover by Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA). Excellent! Boehner adds: “This is a lighthearted web video, but the underlying point is no laughing matter,” Boehner said. “At a time when Americans ...

Stimulus Puts Obama in Tough Territory
RedState: Conservative News and Community —
Is the White House’s well-oiled communications machine coming undone less than six months after President Obama took office?
Based on the past few days of mounting criticism regarding Obama’s top achievement — passage of the $787 billion stimulus — it appears that cracks are beginning to form. The administration wants to avoid distractions from its quest for government-run health care, but the mismanaged stimulus, combined with 9.5% unemployment, make it difficult.
Conservatives should not let this opportunity go to waste.
It started last Thursday with news that unemployment reached ...

Stimulus bill is failing to create new jobs. So why do Democrats want another big spending bill? Haven’t they already paid off their ACORN/Union cronies?
There’s talk this week about Democrats creating another monster stimulus spending bill. In a hearing before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee members quizzed Obama Administration officials about the effectiveness of the last big spending spree:
Only $57 billion spent and only 150,000 jobs created (meanwhile, we’ve lost millions more). That’s $380,000 per ...

Those trends are likely to worsen for Obama as stories like this one in Time Magazine begin to sink in with the average public which pays little attention to the daily ebb and flow of events: ...

Democratic leaders are meeting today with the same economists who advised them to push their first disastrous $787 billion plan earlier this year.
The House Leader reported:
With families across the country asking “where are the jobs,” House Democrats are meeting this morning with the same economists who pushed for the trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ that isn’t working. Also on the agenda for Speaker Pelosi is figuring out how to spend and borrow away her party’s disastrous economic record through a “stealth stimulus.” While Democrats pursue the same ...
