Bush On Al Qaeda Not Existing In Iraq Before Invasion: ‘So What?’
Think Progress — Yesterday, after an Iraqi journalist used “[t]wo of the worst insults in Islam” against him, an unfazed President Bush sat down with ABC’s Martha Raddatz for an exit interview in Iraq. When Raddatz asked Bush about his legacy, Bush first boasted about “52 months of uninterrupted job growth.” (There have been 1.9 million jobs lost in 2008 alone.) Bush then turned to Iraq, and justified the war there by suggesting it had been al Qaeda’s home base. When Raddatz corrected him, Bush dismissively replied, “So what?“: BUSH: One of the major theaters against al Qaeda turns out ...

The Red Shoes?
ECHIDNE OF THE SNAKES — In the fairy tale the red shoes could not be removed and their movement could not be stopped. They just danced on and on down the road and up the hill and into the horizon: From Think Progress.

'So what?'
Political Animal — 'SO WHAT?'.... I'd like to think those responsible for the war in Iraq would know not to take a lackadaisical attitude towards the consequences of that war. If only that were true. In an interview with ABC News' Martha Raddatz yesterday, the president reflected on the war, saying, "One of the major theaters against al Qaeda turns out to have been Iraq. This is where al Qaeda said they were going to take their stand." Raddatz interjecting, noting that Iraq was not a major theater for al Qaeda until after the U.S. invasion. "Yeah, that's right," the president said. "So what?" He added that he believes the terrorist group is "becoming defeated." It's hard not to watch clips ...

Bush Acknowledges Absence Of Al Qaeda In Pre-Occupation Iraq With A 'So What?'
The Huffington Post | Full News Feed — Reality-based observers have long known that the Bush administrations attempts to connect the al Qaeda with pre-invasion Iraq have been nothing more than a campaign of misinformation. Al Qaeda, however, had no presence in Iraq prior to the 2003 invasion, and even afterwards, the so-called "al Qaeda in Iraq" never amounted to anything more than a "microscopic terrorist organization" with "850 full time fighters." But regardless of the puny size of the opposition calling themselves "al Qaeda," on theme has been constant from this administration: the presence of al Qaeda, terrorists, "special groups," and foreign fighters (typically from Iran) is sold as ...

Sweet Zombie Jesus in Jodhpurs ...
BlondeSense — That "So what?" is on a par with Dick Cheney's contemptuous "So?" several years ago. This disgusting little creature and the bloated psychopath he's partnered with deserve to be arrested two seconds after noon on January 20th, held without bail in the Navy brig in South Carolina then put on trial. The charges? Oh, I don't know ... let's start with a few blasts from the past taken from the Nuremberg Indictment: 1. Conspiracy to wage a war of aggression 2. Waging a war of aggression 3. War crimes That's three of the five original counts (the other two, Crimes Against Humanity and Conspiracy to Seize Power, we will leave aside for the nonce). Let's see ... what else? Ah. 4. 4,205 ...

Chris Durang: Bush says "So what?", Cheney says "So?"
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com — Watching the MSNBC triumvirate of Matthews, Olbermann and Maddow these past Monday and Tuesday nights, I saw a number of clips that... well, made me angry. When I'm usually so serene. First there was the clip from a recent interview Bush gave on ABC, as part of what many are calling his "Victory Tour" (celebrating and "explaining" how great he's been). The interviewer asks Bush about Iraq and his legacy and what he thinks it all means. Bush listens to the question with a very happy smile on his face, and says he had to keep the country safe, then quickly gets to: One of the major theaters against al Qaeda turns out to have been Iraq. This is ...

Jan Herman: Calling It Something Else
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com — Elisabeth Bumiller's Pentagon Memo takes note of the "semantic dance: What is the definition of a combat soldier?" Even though the agreement with the Iraqi government calls for all American combat troops to be out of the cities by the end of June, military planners are now quietly acknowledging that many will stay behind as renamed "trainers" and "advisers" in what are effectively combat roles. In other words, they will still be engaged in combat, just called something else. Which leaves ongoing ... The Cost of the War in Iraq ... and of course thousands of American soldiers ...

Manliness & masculinity (by Suzie)
ECHIDNE OF THE SNAKES —           Manning up does not necessarily yield a feminist ally.            A couple of people defended The Art of Manliness blog, which Anthony critiqued this week. He promised to delve into it further, but, damn, I can’t wait.           The man who started the blog says he married a feminist and thinks the feminist movement has done ...
