Roland Martin On The GOP Degrading Community Organizers
Oliver Willis —
It’s pretty brazen that the party of big business so boldly tries to pretend its for regular people.
Republicans Hate Community Organizers Because Hate Is All They Know

I'm in New York City now, having flown out of Minneapolis earlier this evening. And I suppose it's fitting that my last experience in that city was to tour foreclosed houses in St Paul with ACORN, a group of community organizers. I'm watching the Republican line-up, just getting done with Giuliani, and what strikes me is the utter sense of hatred and contempt for ordinary people emanating from this Christian white group.
Steve Clemons says that Palin added some sizzle to the convention, and I'm sure that's right. When I left, this was a deadened and frustrated group. But now I see on ...
Sarah Barracuda Strikes

Great speech - but it would have been better without the sarcasm and snide comments. [image] Sarah Palin made her party proud last night in a speech that delivered her to star status . It took twenty-four years to catch up, but the Republican Party finally nominated someone nationally who isn’t a white guy. Congratulations on joining the 20th century. She just should have delivered it without the condescension, sarcasm and snide remarks. Then there was the small town vs. civic pride, which always seems to raise that divide when Republicans are involved. Palin mocking Obama’s community organizing activist roots. Does Sarah have a clue what ...
GOP Thinks Organizing In Your Community Is Worthless

Well, I suppose we should all just throw up our hands and let local children starve, let civil rights problems fester, and shut up and accept every problem for what it is: our lot in life.
Screw the poor. To hell with women being allowed to vote. Rollback the end of slavery. And get yer hazmat ...
Palin, Giuliani Mocked Obama's Organizing Work, But It Was Sponsored By The Catholic Church

Last night at the Republican National Convention, both Rudy Giuliani and McCain veep choice Sarah Palin mocked Barack Obama's work as a community organizer in Chicago two decades ago. Comparing her experience to Obama's, Palin said "I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer—except that you have actual responsibilities." Despite the fact that organizers do have responsibilities, Palin's derision was echoed by the delegates in the hall, who roared with laughter at the idea that "community organizing" is real work.
But in guffawing at Obama's work, the GOP was mocking the efforts of an important group: the Catholic Church. ...
In defense of community organizers

IN DEFENSE OF COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS.... There was plenty to be offended by at last night's Republican convention, but the snide, condescending shots directed at community organizers, most notably from Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin, seemed unusually cheap, even by GOP standards. I noticed this afternoon that McCain had scheduled a photo-op with Habitat for Humanity (it was later cancelled), and quickly realized that all of those folks who help build homes for families in need are, in fact, community organizers. I wondered how many of them took comfort in the derision they received by leading Republicans last night, as if their work somehow lacked value. David Plouffe ...

McCain’s lucky he’s not out there alone. Reviewing his dismal speech last night seems almost mean. That’s how flat it was, right up until the end. It’s always good to ...
