Barack Obama has a new ad targeting John McCain as a celebrity. In the course of the ad, we see McCain as a guest on Jay Leno (several times), David Letterman, the View, and on Saturday Night Live. But there's one place where McCain has actually been a guest far more than any of those others. It's the place where the host once said: "People who watch this show know, we love John McCain. It appears that McCain’s recent ads portraying Obama as “Big hat, no cattle,” have struck a nerve. Obama responds with this ad:
The response reminds me of the playground taunt used in a name calling contest…”I am rubber, you are glue. Whatever you say bounces of me and sticks to you!” I don’t remember that reply being very effective on the playground. I don’t suspect it will be any more effective in the campaign ad.

You've probably already seen the picture of McCain's entrance for his RNC acceptance speech. What it illustrates extremely well is how the Republican's, in their blunt yet effective playbook, make use of projection. No, I'm not talking about special lighting or video effects, I'm referring to the psychological term. In other words, hammer your opponent to death over something that you exercise over and over yourself.
