Brave New Films' Latest Video Punctures The P.O.W. Myth
News Hounds —
As Robert Greenwald says, John McCain has been exploiting his prisoner of war experience every chance he gets. He has used this story to justify everything from not knowing how many homes he has to his healthcare plan to his marital infidelities to his taste in music. The McCain campaign is even using his POW story in paid ads. But now a veteran who was a prisoner with McCain in Vietnam is explaining loud and clear that being a POW does not qualify McCain to lead our country.
Does McCain's Military History Qualify Him To Be President? The Deceptions Of Joe Lieberman
DownWithTyranny! —
It isn't likely that a widely discredited Washington insider who was thrown out of his own party by Connecticut voters will persuade many Democrats or independents to vote for his closest crony and fellow deranged warmonger, John McCain. Ironically, the outgoing Republican Rep. in Maryland's first congressional district, Wayne Gilchrest, endorsed conservative Democrat Frank Kratovil over neo-fascist GOP candidate Andy Harris. That will have a great deal more impact than Lieberman's distorted presentation of his buddy McCain. "Distorted," you ask? Well I'm glad you did because I'd like to lay out some facts for you that counter Lieberman's most egregious ...

Can’t she quit the ticket already? Then I could get back to bashing McCain….
CBS News, John McCain’s campaign threatened legal action against the National Enquirer today for running a story about McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, allegedly having an affair with her husband’s business partner.

Former POW: We can’t let a former POW with a temper near the button

Former POW: We can’t let a former POW with a temper near the button posted at 12:19 pm on September 4, 2008 by Allahpundit Send to a Friend | printer-friendly A little counterprogramming to this week’s tributes at the convention from lefty propagandist Robert Greenwald, proving again that he’s perfectly at ease with the sort of “fearmongering” that progressives like to pretend only conservatives engage in. The most striking thing about this isn’t what Butler has to say — the talking points about McCain’s temper and “residual effects” suffered by POWs are old hat, and especially unconvincing given how stable and sober Butler himself seems — but how ...
A POW Against McCain?
Weekly Standard Blog —
Dr. Phillip Butler, an American POW during the Vietnam war, has received attention for a recent ad in opposition to John McCain. The short ad is an excerpt from this longer piece:
Dr. Butler is a hero whose service and bravery merit our praise and thanks. But there's no indication in anything he says here that he has spoken to McCain in decades. And an op-ed he's written to expand on his concerns both confirms much of what we already know, and suggests that Butler is more jealous of McCain than anything else. For example:
In fact [McCain] barely managed to graduate, ...
ZP Heller: The "P" in "POW" Does Not Stand for "President"
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
If the Republican National Convention revealed anything it’s that John McCain is hellbent on overplaying his POW card to the bitter end. In the last few months alone we’ve seen the McCain campaign overuse McCain’s POW story to justify everything from his healthcare policy to forgetting how many houses he owns, from cheating at the Saddleback forum to his love of ABBA. Each time McCain and the GOP invoke his past in vain they diminish the story’s potency and cheapen its respectability. Such a political ploy compelled fellow former POWs like Dr. Phillip Butler to come forward and declare that this experience does not qualify McCain ...
McCain Should Know Better
Antiwar.com Original —
J ohn McCain seems to be running for president on the basis of his status as a former North Vietnamese prisoner of war. Rudy Giuliani said in his speech at the Republican National Convention that McCain's refusal to accept early release showed he's a man "who believes in serving a cause greater than self-interest." In his speech, Fred Thompson said McCain's time in the "Hanoi Hilton" revealed "the kind of character that civilizations from the beginning of history have sought in their leaders: strength, courage, humility, wisdom duty, [and] honor." McCain wrapped up his speech in St. Paul with his own analysis of how that ordeal prepared him for the ...
Vietnam Vet and Former POW says McCain Unfit to be President
culturekitchen - fresh dissent served daily —
Republicans love to talk about the troops and our veterans. Sadly, their record is pretty sad on both supporting our troops and supporting our veterans, something I have written about before. Which may well be why our troops are supporting Barack Obama, not John McCain. This has led to quite a movement of veterans opposing the Bush/McCain republican party. VoteVets.org and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America being two excellent veterans organizations involved in this election.
But what is most devastating is that a Vetnam Vet and former POW who KNEW McCain back in 'Nam is calling him unfit to be President: ...
