McCain's Closing Ad Recalls POW Service, Takes Shot At Obama
TPM Election Central —
John McCain's new 30-second spot, set to air in key states, presents a closing argument based on his POW biography, and the implication that he's the real candidate of substance:
"I've served my country since I was 17 years old -- and spent five years longing for her shores," McCain says, as footage of him in his Vietnam hospital bed is played. "I came home dedicated to a cause greater than my own."
McCain then talks about how he'll cut government waste and grow the economy, closing on his campaign's theme that Barack Obama is an empty suit, without ...

McCain talks of his own life story in "Freedom" and offers a dose of optimism in what is almost certainly a closing spot.

John McCain closes with a biographical ad that mention his service to country and time as a POW.
"Don't hope for a stronger America," McCain says in a voiceover, "vote for one."
** Note that at the end of the 30-second spot, running in key states, the narrator says "McCain," not "McCain/Palin" -- even as the campaign's logo, with both names, appears on screen.

McCain's Final Argument Ad
Tammy Bruce —
Here is the ad which is essentially his final argument, released just a few hours ago. "Freedom" will air nationally and other commercials which focus on comparison of McCain and Obama and more aggressive in tone, will be removed from the air, as airing of this one increases. This, of course, is the plan of the McCain camp, in the meantime, there's the RNC and some 527s which will also contribute to the airwaves in these next crucial 4 days.
McCain ad: “Freedom”

McCain ad: “Freedom” posted at 6:25 pm on October 31, 2008 by Ed Morrissey Send to a Friend | printer-friendly John McCain released what his campaign earlier called his “final argument” for the 2008 presidential campaign. “Freedom” stays positive, focusing on McCain’s own qualifications for the presidency and avoiding any mention of his opponents: I’ve served my country since I was 17 years old. And, spent five years longing for her shores. I came home dedicated to a cause greater than my own. We can grow our economy. We will cut government waste. Don’t hope for a stronger America. Vote for one. Join me. This ...

McCain Finds His Gentle Side Three Days Before Election Day
Hoffmania! —
It's about as close as he ever got to being positive, yet he still manages a snarky comment on "Hope." Some habits just won't die.

The Caucus —
THE DAY Senator Barack Obama got both help and trouble from his family Saturday. The trouble: An aunt from Kenya was reported to be living in Boston public housing even though she was ordered to leave the country in 2004. The help: Vice President Dick Cheney, a distant cousin of Mr. Obama, endorsed his opponent, Senator John McCain, providing much fodder for gleeful Democrats. * Republicans went after Mr. Obama on patriotism. Seizing on Mr. Obama’s remark that his caucus victory in Iowa ”vindicated” his faith in America, Mr. McCain said “my country has never had to prove anything to me.” At a Sarah Palin rally in Florida ...
Palin on TV
Jonathan Martin's Blog —
The most striking thing about Obama's quickie ad -- bound only for national cable and free news and internet replays -- is not the broken-record linkage of McCain to Bush and Cheney.
It's the degree to which the Democrat's campaign feels safe in mocking Palin. As with their ad last week that questioned McCain's judgment by showing her winking at a debate, this spot is as much about Palin as it is the man atop the GOP ticket.
It's a far cry from the uncertainty Obama and his team showed in the weeks after Palin was picked, when she immediately lifted McCain's standing in the polls. ...
William Bradley: The TV Ad Wars Conclude
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
Barack Obama's positive closer ad.
The TV ad wars between Barack Obama and John McCain are finally coming to an end. Obama is closing out with a ton of positive advertising, leavened with deft negatives linking McCain to President Bush and his failed economic policies, in a pair of ads that began running around the country on Friday. McCain has been mostly negative, befitting his trailing position in the race, though he has a positive closer ad. Nevertheless, despite his pledge this spring not to make Rev. Jeremiah Wright an issue in the campaign, ...
