Last night on Fox News, host Sean Hannity and Newt Gingrich got together to discuss the Obama administration’s new financial system oversight and regulation plan. Naturally, Hannity was particularly outraged, bringing out his tired old trope that it “moves America down the road to socialism.”
Hannity then asked Gingrich to “explain” to his audience “how dangerous this power grab is.” Instead of using the standard, well worn-out and relatively benign “socialism” charge, this time, Gingrich raised the stakes and painted the plan in particularly frightening terms — “dictatorship.”: ...

Gingrich and Hannity think America is hurtling towards socialism, or worse, dictatorship. Funny that Gingrich and Hannity sure didn't care when their Republican buddies in the White House and Congress spent the last eight years trashing the US Constitution and the rights of our citizens, all for the "greater good." That was okay. But trying to pass legislation to make it easier to forestall a depression, that's dictatorship. So, in a nutshell: Taking rights away from citizens is patriotic, but taking rights away from corporations is dictatorship. ...
How Can Anyone Think Both of These Things?

Guess which former New York Times columnist is praising Dick Cheney for his recent pr offensive against the Obama Administration? On reflection, I don’t find the Cheney media appearances surprising. These are the policies that he fought for as VP. Of course he wants the Obama Administration to continue practices like “enhanced interrogation,” warrantless wiretapping and an expansive view of executive branch wartime powers.
What’s truly weird is the subset of Obama critics who’ve tried to persuade me that he is a dangerous radical with ties to terrorists, or that he is plotting to transform the United States into a Communist ...
