Club For Growth Targets Crist With Florida TV Ad
TPM Election Central —
Club for Growth, the conservative group that bankrolled Doug Hoffman's failed candidacy in NY-23, has, not surprisingly, set its sights on Gov. Charlie Crist (R-FL) today with an ad that will air on Florida television.
The ad attacks Crist for supporting the stimulus and speaking in favor of it at rallies with President Obama. It claims "200,000 Floridians have lost their jobs" since the stimulus passed. "Tell Gov. Crist to work on fixing Florida's economy, not passing more debt to our children," a voice says. The ad "will air soon," a press release reads. ...
Florida's Crist Hammered for Backpedalling on Obama's Stimulus
The Note —
ABC News' Teddy Davis reports:
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist's (R) embrace of President Obama's economic stimulus package is continuing to dog the moderate Republican's bid for the U.S. Senate.
Yesterday, Crist told CNN that he never endorsed the stimulus and that he was simply trying to get the best deal for Florida given that the ...
Club for Growth Trying to Scozzafava Charlie Crist
MyDD —
Take a gander: The Club for Growth has been one of the most successful entities in the nation in electing Democrats to Congress. Whether it was helping force Bill Sali (Idaho) and Tim Walberg (Michigan) through GOP primaries in 2006, only to see both lose reelection bids in 2008; unsuccessfully primarying Linc Chafee (Rhode Island) in 2006, weakening him for the general election (which he eventually lost); pushing Andy Harris (Maryland) and Steve Pearce (New Mexico) through primaries against moderates into general elections they ended up losing in 2008; or, most recently, forcing Dede Scozzafava out in ...
Crist, the Stimulus and White House Hugs
The Caucus —
Though Republican Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida keeps distancing himself from support for the president’s economic stimulus package and the hug he shared with President Obama earlier this year, the White House sure hasn’t forgotten that embrace. Nor have conservatives, including his primary opponent in the 2010 Senate race, Marco Rubio. This afternoon, St. Pete Times’s Politifact gave Mr. Crist a “pants on fire” designation for his denial earlier this week that he’d ever endorsed Mr. Obama’s $787 billion package. The latest round in this flurry of criticism came after Tuesday’s election, as conservatives battling with Republican party officials ...
FL SEN: We're Going To Disneyland!
Hotline On Call —
Less than two days after Doug Hoffman's (C) defeat in NY-23, conservatives are rallying to a new race -- FL SEN, where Gov. Charlie Crist (R) is facing a rising challenge from ex-state House Speaker Marco Rubio (R) for the GOP primary nod.
The Club for Growth today announced it will begin running its first ads in FL targeting Crist's "embrace of big government spending."
The ad, which comes a day after the gov. told CNN's Blitzer that he "didn't endorse" the $787B stimulus, features footage of Crist telling a crowd at his Feb. appearance with Pres. Obama in Fort Myers, "It's important that we pass ...
Charlie Crist Was Against The Stimulus Bill Before He Was For It, Or Something Like That
Below The Beltway —
The other night on CNN, Florida Governor Charlie Crist, now a candidate for Senate in 2010, claimed that while he accepted the stimulus money from the Federal Government, he never supported the bill:
Well, then how does Crist explain the letter he signed along with other, mostly Democratic, Governors back in February:
2.3.2009 Letter Signed By Charlie Crist Regarding Stimulus Package
Or, this:
Gov. Charlie Crist, now a U.S. Senate ...
Fact check: First television spot in the US Senate race?
Post on Politics —
In what could be the first television ad of the 2010 U.S. Senate race, Club for Growth, the conservative group that helped take down the Republican candidate in an upstate New York Congressional race, unveiled a new television spot today aimed at Republican Gov. Charlie Crist, who is facing a primary challenge from former House Speaker Marco Rubio.
The club has not officially picked sides in the race, but this is clearly the strongest signal of several in recent months that they favor Rubio. The group could provide Rubio a needed boost in fundraising against Crist.
The group said the ...

Marco Rubio is going to win.

Months ago when discussing Marco Rubio's decision to challenge Charlie Crist, I said he was a great candidate, but probably should have chosen to run for Governor due to his massive shortage of cash relative to his Senate primary opponent, Governor Charlie Crist. ...

Club for Growth backs Rubio
GOP 12 —
Last week's ad made it seem a foregone conclusion, but this morning, the powerful conservative grassroots organization, Club for Growth , announced it will be backing Marco Rubio's primary challenge to Charlie Crist. "Marco Rubio is the real deal, one of the brightest young stars in American politics today, and a proven champion of economic liberty. He is a dynamic spokesman for the principles of limited government and economic freedom, and he will make a fantastic Senator." The group gives a nod to electability concerns, claiming it's studied the race for "months", and concluded Rubio and Crist would both beat likely Democratic nominee, Kendrick Meek, in a ...
