A star is born?

A STAR IS BORN?.... It's not unusual at a major party convention for an unexpected speaker to stand out and cause people to take notice. For this person, the convention is something of a springboard, generating "buzz" that can last for quite a while. As it turns out, Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) fit the bill quite nicely. Josh Marshall noted ...
Tuesday's Convention Speeches
News —
Tuesday's Convention Speeches The YouTube clips of Tuesday night's big speeches at the Democratic convention are below. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), the night's featured speaker, urged Democrats to back her former rival, Barack Obama. In no uncertain terms, Clinton said that Obama was her candidate . Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner (D), the convention's keynote speaker , framed the choice between Obama and John McCain as one between the future and the past. And Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) fired up delegates by skewering McCain , calling him "four more years of the same." Read more about Tuesday night and ...
Hillary delivers, Schweitzer shines

Of course the big buzz this morning is about Hillary Clinton's speech. It was a great speech. Probably one of the best she's ever given, but if she wasn't the headliner last night, this speech would be the talk of The Village today. Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer was brilliant. In cruising the ...
Rah! Rah! Rah!

I missed Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer’s speech last night, and it’s great. Send this video to anyone you know who’s even thinking of voting for McCain.
Money line: “We simply can’t drill our way to energy independence. If you drilled everywhere, if you drilled in all of John McCain’s backyards, even the ones he doesn’t know he has, that single proposition is a dry well.”
David Sirota: Convention Dispatch: Schweitzer Hits the National Stage
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
When I first went out to Montana in 2000, most people I knew in politics had no idea who Brian Schweitzer was, much less that he had a shot to win a statewide office in the then-red Rocky Mountain West. When I told my book publisher I was going to devote a whole chapter in my new book to my time working with Schweitzer, they were intruiged. Now, thanks to Schweitzer's Democratic convention speech last night, a lot of folks understand why I've always thought he was one of the most impressive progressive political leaders around.

What you're missing/how you're being misled if you're not watching C-SPAN's convention coverage

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS by Amy Weiss Listening to elected officials and party bigwigs for hours may be pretty boring at times, but listening to MSM pundits say "Nobody's attacking John McCain" AT THE EXACT SAME TIME the speaker they're talking over is attacking John McCain is incredibly frustrating. Of course Hillary Clinton was the big-ticket item last night-and she deserves every word of praise she received for her terrific speech-but the MSM did viewers a disservice by ignoring some rousing speeches. This very kind of discussion was going on MSNBC and CNN just as Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer delivered this speech ...
Al Gore Rocked The Stadium
DownWithTyranny! —
Al Gore was excellent tonight. You can read his whole speech here. You should. My favorite lines for anyone without the attention span it takes: 1- Eight years ago, some said there was not much difference between the nominees of the two major parties and it didn’t really matter who became President. Our nation was enjoying peace and prosperity. Some assumed we would continue both no matter the outcome. But here we all are in 2008, and I doubt anyone would argue now that election didn't matter. Take it from me, if it had ended differently, we would not be bogged down in Iraq, we would have ...
Viral Videos From DNC08 in Denver

While network TV has cut back its coverage of the national political conventions to an hour a night, and within that hour we often get more of the network "stars" bloviating than straightforward speechifying from the convention floor, the internet is, as my colleague Andrew Rasiej likes to say, "the Tivo of our times." A glance back at the speeches and media moments in Denver and their YouTube views suggests a couple of episodes must have strong word-of-mouth, since people are going to watch the stuff they heard about but missed. These include:
John Kerry's speech, which was widely praised as one of the best of his career: More than ...
Schweitzer Gets Harkin Invite
Taegan Goddard's Political Wire —
Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D), "whose feisty speech in Denver was one of the rhetorical highlights of the Democratic National Convention, will be the headline speaker at U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin's annual steak fry," the Chicago Tribune reports.
"Harkin's annual event, scheduled for Sept. 14, is one of the largest political gatherings of the year, drawing thousands of people to fields just south of Des Moines. Past speakers have included President Clinton, Vice President Al Gore and the event traditionally draws presidential candidates in droves during precinct caucus cycles."
