Veep Debate Preview
The Stump —
Biden's a terrific debater, and I look at this matchup and think he's going to utterly shellack Palin. But this paring could be a little bit of a gaffe trap for Biden. In debates, he can get into a signature mode of rolled-eyes exasperation. If he goes off too hard on her, is he then accused of beating up on a woman? --Eve Fairbanks

Will McCain Vote For An Alaska-Friendly Earmark In The Senate Bailout Bill?
Think Progress —
In an effort to garner more support for the Wall Street bailout bill, the Senate added “tax extenders” to its bill. One of the additions — which some conservatives are labeling “pork” and “tax earmarks” — is a six-page measure protecting Alaskans from having to pay taxes on rewards from the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill, starting on page 301:
SEC. 504. INCOME AVERAGING FOR AMOUNTS RECEIVED IN CONNECTION WITH THE EXXON VALDEZ LITIGATION […]
(c) (1)…no portion of qualified settlement income received by a qualified taxpayer shall be ...
Palin's 'Roe' answer may disturb base
The Swamp —
by James Oliphant
According to her interview with CBS News' Katie Couric, Sarah Palin is only familiar with one Supreme Court case, the seminal abortion-rights decision Roe v. Wade.
But did Palin, who is so resolutely pro-life that she has, in the past, said she doesn't believe in abortions in any circumstance, including rape, and believes the "morning after pill" is an abortion, fall into a trap set by Couric?
Couric asked her if she believed that there is an inherent right to privacy in the Constitution. Palin replied, unequivocally, yes.
But, the right to privacy isn't found in the Bill of Rights or ...
Lopez: McCain vs. the Media
Articles on National Review Online —
A ll the legal-scholar talking heads, for whom Supreme Court jurisprudence is breakfast-table talk, think they know it all. Sarah Palin is a know-nothing. When asked by Katie Couric to start naming names, she didn t provide her top-ten most-hated Supreme Court cases. What an idiot, they laugh and blog. But, truth be told, it s hard to believe that Sarah Palin is the ditz that conventional talking-head wisdom so dearly wants her to be. Could she really know nothing about the Supreme Court? It s especially hard to believe if you ve actually heard her talk about a Supreme Court decision she wasn t happy with. (Hear her on Exxon v. Baker , here ...
Shannyn Moore: Palin's Oily Lies Drip from the Pages of Going Rogue...
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
I know facts aren't going to matter to many people buying Sarah Palin's, Going Rogue. Facts certainly didn't matter to folks who voted for her.
According to the "fact checkers":
PALIN: Welcomes last year's Supreme Court decision deciding punitive damages for victims of the nation's largest oil spill tragedy, the Exxon Valdez disaster, stating it had taken 20 years to achieve victory. As governor, she says, she'd had the state argue in favor of the victims, and she says the court's ruling went "in favor of the people." Finally, she writes, Alaskans could recover some of their losses.
THE FACTS: That response is at odds with her ...
Palin Witness Fact Check I
The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan —
“That is the most cockamamie bullshit. She didn’t have a damn
thing to do with it, and she didn’t know what it was about," - Dave Oesting of Anchorage,
lead plaintiff attorney in the private litigants’ civil case against
Exxon and its successor, Exxon Mobil Corp. He was referring to governor Palin's boast in her book that she played a role in "achieving victory" for the victims of the Exxon-Valdez disaster, even when she is on record at the time saying she was "very, very disappointed" and heart-broken with the decision that she called "not right". In "Going Rogue," she calls it a ...
