For the second time in as many weeks, the NRSC is airing a TV ad that assumes John McCain will lose the presidential race and Democrats are to have full control of both ends of Pennsylvania Ave.
Hoping to save Sen. Gordon Smith, the committee is going up with an ad warning of "one-party rule in Washington."
"Sending Jeff Merkley to the Uunited States Senate could give one party a blank check again," says the announcer, referring to Smith's Democratic challenger.

Senate GOP Committee Takes Out Big Loan For Home Stretch
The NRSC has taken out a $5 million loan in the home stretch of the campaign, joining other party committees that have made the same decision in order to maximize gains -- or in this case, minimize losses -- on Election Day. The party's big challenge will be to avoid a nine-seat loss that would give the Dems a filibuster-proof majority, but even a Dem majority that came close to that would be highly damaging for the GOP.

Here's what's been happening over the last 48 hours or so in the U.S. Senate race:
President Bush directed the RNC to take out a $5 million loan -- to be spent on RNC-coordinated ads for Gordon Smith (watch, and look for the disclaimer) and independent expenditure ads from the NRSC. That's on top of the millions being spent by Karl Rove and Freedom's Watch.
Abandoning his campaign message of "reaching across the aisle", Gordon Smith told Lars Larson that he'll work to stop Barack Obama's agenda.
Smith wasn't talking up common ground with Obama when he appeared on Lars ...
