Video: McCain Rocks at the Al Smith Foundation Dinner
Tammy Bruce — Fifteen minutes of McCain nailing every issue and mercilessly Speaking Truth to Barky at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, while being funny every step of the way. The writing was wonderful, but his delivery, I must say, was genius. He's found his rhythm "my friends." Now if he would just use two words re the economy--"Special Prosecutor"--and keeps up this pace, we'd be in even more perfect shape. Watch both parts, it's fantastic stuff and will give you even more inspiration for the 18 days to come. Here's Part 1: Here's Part 2, which includes comments about ACORN: ...

Hot Air » Top Picks — Video: McCain knocks ‘em dead at the Alfred E. Smith dinner posted at 11:44 pm on October 16, 2008 by Allahpundit Send to a Friend | printer-friendly I actually did laugh out loud. Especially at what he claims is Obama’s pet name for him. Update: Here’s Obama’s speech. “My middle name, it’s not what you think. It’s actually Steve.”

McCain is on a Roll
Stop The ACLU — For all those dismissing McCain and saying the game is over, you are wrong. McCain is on his game. Example 1: He is riding Obama on the tax issue like a true maverick ! Example 2: He knows how to bring the house down, and is much funnier than Obama. If only he could have been this quick witted in the debates.

Obama & McCain Palling Around At the Al Smith Dinner (Video)
Tennessee Guerilla Women — Both of these guys are really funny, as in insanely hysterical! Laughter is good. How I wish the entire presidential campaign could be limited to one comic night. Hillary is laughing in the audience. And McCain's digs at MSNBC and Keith Olbermann? Priceless. The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Dinner
Winds of Change.NET — You may not have ever heard of Alfred E. Smith -- I had not, before tonight -- but I think we can all agree that what follows are the best speeches of this Presidential campaign.

McCain's hilarious, classy speech at last night's Al Smith Dinner
All — What a great way to end a depressing, exhausting campaign week: You can watch Part Two at my Examiner.com site.

This Is Not The John McCain I Know
The Hostages: Planning A Code Red Since April 2007 — I consider this the final debate. It’s the equivalent of a Southern Lady saying “Well, just bless your heart!” McCain #1 McCain #2 If he had brought up one quarter of his barbs in the regular debates, he’d be ahead right now in the polls. Obama #1 ...

At the Al Smith Dinner
Power Line — John McCain gave a genuinely funny speech at last night's annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation dinner. In addition to the zingers, the speech included a striking tribute to his opponent. All in all, a spectacular speech. Part 1 is below, part 2 is here. The rest of Senator McCain's speech is accessible with Senator Obama's speech here. McCain opened with "a major announcement." He announced that he had fired all his senior advisers; their positions will now be filled by a man named Joe the Plumber. A little further along he said he sensed the presence of some secret supporters in the room. It was just a set-up line for one of the jokes, ...

McCain Leaves 'Em Laughing
Weekly Standard Blog — In his comments at New York's Al Smith Dinner, McCain had the audience in stitches from start to finish. My personal favorite line: "It's gonna be a long, long night at MSNBC if I pull this off." HT: Ace

“Funny is money” - McCain scores big at Al Smith Dinner
Roger L. Simon — There’s an old Hollywood expression:  Funny is money… meaning (obviously) that comedy rules at the box office.  There’s good reason for that.  Those of us who have tried to write comic scripts know that it is often harder to do than a melodrama. No wonder many of the highest paid stars…. Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller, etc…. are the ones who can make us laugh. Ditto for politics.  Ronald Reagan is said to have turned an election during a debate with a joke about his age.  Last night John McCain scored big with his very humorous and self-deprecatory speech at the Al Smith Dinner in New York.  He was a lot funnier than his opponent and, ...

Where has this John McCain been hiding?
culturekitchen - fresh dissent served daily — Where have they've been keeping this John McCain? McCain on Letterman : "I screwed up, what can I say? What can I say!" "I haven't had this much fun since my last interrogation." Best. Line. Ever. And here's McCain at last night's Al Smith's Dinner. It's like a the Friar's Club Roast but  with a bunch of politicians and Catholic'istas and so, allegedly without the profanity. Part One : Where he announces firing all his staff and replacing them with "Joe The Plumber" Part Two : ...

And the week's biggest victim of a hostile media is:
Jim Treacher's Blog That Is on the Internet — And the week's biggest victim of a hostile media is: Barack Obama! "I am convinced that if there were no Fox News, I might be two or three points higher in the polls. If I were watching Fox News, I wouldn't vote for me, right? "Because the way I'm portrayed 24/7 is as a freak! I am the latte-sipping, New York Times-reading, Volvo-driving, no-gun-owning, effete, politically correct, arrogant liberal. Who wants somebody like that?" I would've guessed cappuccino. It's not enough that he has the overwhelming majority of the media -- not to mention the left-wing blogs that are apparently their main source of information -- in his pocket. He can brook no disagreement ...

The Al Smith Dinner With McCain and Obama
Dean's World — These dinners are an old tradition for Presidential candidates, and it’s cool to see that they’re increasingly available for the public to view. Here are McCain and Obama’s speeches as I was able to find them on YouTube: I thought both men were very funny. Although I think McCain was funnier on the whole, Obama was extremely funny at times (especially the parts about Krypton and his greatest weakness) and was quite gracious. He made it hard not to like him. By the way, I ...
