Hurricane Gustav should not gain strength before it slams onto the LA shore 35-40 miles Sw of NOLA, and will not score a direct hit on New Orleans. However, it will hit close enough so that the dangerous storm surge will affect the city. And this is not the "Hurricane Olympics' (where only Cat 5 gets a medal.) A Category 2 storm is very powerful and extremely dangerous. The levees are built to hold for a Category 3 storm, but as we all know, they are even now not ready for any more stress. More than $2 billion in repairs and improvements made to the system since Katrina cracked it open three years ago have strengthened some weak spots. ...
