The Stump — You can watch it here (video won't embed). All in all, McCain did alright. He seemed more good-natured and relaxed than he has in the debates. And while Letterman needled him a bit about bailing on his last scheduled appearance--"I screwed up," McCain admitted-- he wasn't churlish, and most of the interview was civil, even friendly. But McCain also demonstrated an unappealing side we've also seen in the debates: a certain fatigue while talking about himself and the campaign that suggests he's sick of answering questions, finds them annoying. Classical Values — The terrorist and the "plumber" In the ongoing campaign to minimize Bill Ayers (discussed previously in this post and others), the latest meme is an attempted moral equivalency comparison between Obama's friend Bill Ayers the terrorist, and McCain's friend G. Gordon Liddy the Watergate burglar. While others have made this comparison before, it's getting attention now because David Letterman brought it up in an interview with John McCain. While I think the comparison is laughable in the extreme, I'm assuming David Letterman sees it as a serious moral equivalency argument, and not comedy, so I'll treat it as if it's serious.
