Dems: McCain A "Maverick No More"
TPM Election Central —

The DNC response ad features the same Dems from the McCain ad making the point that he used to be a maverick, but is now a "maverick no more."
And the maverick wars -- in which the Dems work to tarnish McCain's maverick brand while McCain and the Repubs feverishly buff it -- continue apace.

DNC Parodies "Dems Praise McCain" Ad ... By Using The Same Talking Heads
The Huffington Post | Full News Feed —
So is John McCain a maverick who can elicit praise from across the aisle, or isn't he?
The Arizona Republican's campaign put out a web-ad this morning that featured past encomiums from several high-profile Democrats. The DNC wasted no time assembling their response ... using the same Democrats as McCain's campaign.
The DNC's response piece is a skillful mimic of McCain's ad -- straight down to the loping, country slide guitar boogie rhythm on the soundtrack.

DNC fires back: Democrats used to love a Maverick posted at 3:43 pm on August 7, 2008 by Allahpundit Send to a Friend | printer-friendly Clever and impressively quick, but anchoring the clip with Hillary just doesn’t work as well as it did in McCain’s ad this morning. Her ripping on McCain is partisan noise, the same as when any senator goes after the opposition; her ripping on Obama by unfavorably (and gratuitously) comparing him to the opposing party’s nominee is withering. Plus, it plays into the irresistible storyline of how much the Clintons dislike and/or distrust Barry O. Go look at the top of Drudge ...

Why "Maverick" McCain's "Dems like me" ad is pointless
BuzzFlash.org - Progressive News and Commentary with an Attitude | Fight Ignorance: Read BuzzFlash —
A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS by Amy Weiss The latest McCain ad, " Praising McCain " features clips of prominent Democrats saying nice things about him. Many of these clips are years old, some are not given in full context, but it proves a point that yes, some Democrats have said nice things about John McCain. What's silly about this ad is its assertion that a few kind words mean McCain is the most bipartisan politician ever. The ad uses the word "maverick" twice in the 60-second spot as if saying it enough makes it true. DNC Chairman Howard Dean, who was one of the Democrats featured in "Praising McCain," was quick to point out this ...

The DNC responded with more up to date reactions about what these same Democrats think of his current campaign. As Howard Dean sums it up, "The John McCain of 2000 wouldn't vote for this John McCain. We don't need another four years of George Bush." Take a look:
