It is just like Republicans to twist Obama's respect and statesmanship into something bad. Obama was treating McCain respectfully unlike McCain who scowled at nearly everything Obama said and it turns into a negative ad. How sad and pathetic...

Barry On Missile Defense - Another Lie
Pirate's Cove — I thought it was about even during the debate on the economy, but, Barry looked bad on the rest. His interruptions, his snotty and pissed off expressions. Here’s one that stood out to me: he stated that he was always for missile defense. Oh really? I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems. And I will institute an independent “Defense Priorities Board” to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending. February 29, ...

Rapid Response: McCain Already Has New Ad From Debate
JammieWearingFool — Damn, that was fast. Quick takes on the debate: I thought McCain was aggressive and pounded home the experience message. Obama kept repeating himself ($10 billion a month in Iraq ... yeah, we know) and often looked flustered and petulant. As I was watching and he kept saying McCain was right, I though that would make for a good ad. So here it is already. H/T Instapundit ...

The Spin Begins...
Real Clear Politics - TIME.com — Statement from McCain Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker: There was one man who was presidential tonight, that man was John McCain. There was another who was political, that was Barack Obama. John McCain won this debate and controlled the dialogue throughout, whether it was the economy, taxes, spending, Iraq or Iran. There was a leadership gap, a judgment gap, and a boldness gap on display tonight, a fact Barack Obama acknowledged when he said John McCain was right at least five times. Tonight's debate showed John McCain in command of the issues and presenting a clear agenda for America's future. Via Ben Smith ...

McCain: Campaigning at the Speed of YouTube
AMERICAN DIGEST — Just mind-bendingly fast: Within an hour. They had to have decided what to look for around the theme of "McCain is right," and then just dropped in the clips. I'm impressed. Who says this candidate doesn't know how to use the Internet?

Obama-McCain Debate Highlights (Video)
Tennessee Guerilla Women — The factcheckers are on the job, but I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that both John McCain and Barack Obama mangled the truth to some extent. This was not a debate to change minds. It would have been much more interesting if they'd actually debated each other. Yawn. ...

Obama: John McCain is Absolutely Right
Stop The ACLU — He jabbed all night long, just in case you were wondering. By the way, did anyone else notice how many times Obama said that McCain was right? The McCain camp noticed…. There were at least five other times Obama started off with the phrase that McCain was right on an issue. I guess if you don’t know much about a subject, just agree with the other guy?

Tammy Bruce — And now Barry's theme in the first debate of confirming how John McCain is right about the issue is also a new McCain campaign commercial. Excellent. :)

The Most Stupidest McCain Ad Ever?
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com — John McCain is running a new campaign ad that actually attacks Barack Obama for agreeing with John McCain. This has to be the first time in history that a candidate ever went negative on his opponent for being too agreeable. If the ad had a lighthearted, funny tone I think it could work. But instead, it is angry and sneering, just like John McCain. Watch the ad: Aside from the tone, the ad's problem is that it reinforces Obama's message that he is willing to work across party lines. Why in the world would a campaign put up an ad that says that the opposing ...

Andrea's Pro-Obama Editor's Cut
NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias — Andrea Mitchell gave it the old Hollywood try for Obama this morning.  Summarizing the debate on Today, Mitchell managed to cobble together a video clip that showed McCain's only stumble, while snipping out what many including her colleague Chris Matthews saw as the debate's most salient feature: the multiple times Obama expressed agreement with McCain. And so it was that Andrea treated us to McCain's difficulties in pronouncing "Ahmadinejad."  But the eight times Obama abjectly agreed with McCain?  Not a one made it into the Mitchell editor's cut. Then there was Andrea's parting shot: The ...

McCain Condemns Obama For Agreeing With Him Thrice
All articles at Blogcritics — Senator John McCain (R-MAVERICK) has a very good chance at winning this presidential election if he does one thing, and one thing alone. And that would be to stop running any kind of political advertisement whatsoever. All they ever do is bite him in the ass. We saw it with the one that suggested Senator Barack Obama voted for a bill which would have taught kindergartners "comprehensive sex education," ...

Tactics v. Strategy, Style v. Substance
Balloon Juice — I guess it should surprise no one that the campaign of the man who last night demonstrated deep confusion on the difference between tactics and strategy would release this: Just as McCain is deeply, hopelessly, and, at his age, irreparably confused about the ...

Let's compare the candidates' post-debate ads.
Althouse — Here's Barack Obama's: Here's McCain's: Okay, McCain's ad is way funnier. It's clever, though it's not really fair. If you look at the transcript, you'll see that every time Obama began with an acknowledgment of agreement with McCain -- which shows generosity and willingness to reach across the aisle -- he proceeded to distinguish his opinions from McCain's. For example: Well, Senator McCain is absolutely right that the earmarks process has been abused, which is why I suspended any ...

McCain ad: “McCain is Right”
Hot Air » Top Picks — McCain ad: “McCain is Right” posted at 12:20 pm on September 27, 2008 by Ed Morrissey Send to a Friend | printer-friendly If the McCain campaign is looking for resonant moments, this may be one of them — or several of them, as Barack Obama uttered a variation of “John is right” nine times during the debate. In a 30-second spot, though, they can only squeeze three of them into the ad: How many times? Well, I think Senator McCain’s absolutely right that we need more responsibility … Well, Senator McCain is absolutely right that the earmarks process has been abused … And he’s also right that oftentimes lobbyists ...

A tale of two ads
Political Animal — A TALE OF TWO ADS.... Given that the McCain and Obama campaigns release new ads -- the line between video press releases and actual advertising has been blurred -- on a nearly daily basis, it stood to reason that both camps would seize on the debate to hammer home some kind of argument. What the campaigns chose, however, tells us something about what the two sides thought about last night's event. The McCain campaign unveiled an insta-ad last night ...

McCain is Right: Grass *is* Green
The Moderate Voice — John McCain has an ad out already, using moments from the debate when Barack Obama segued into his rebuttals via agreement. (You can view the ad here.) But Obama wasn’t just acknowledging common ground, and he definitely wasn’t tacitly deferring to McCain’s mastery. Rather, he assured the rest of us that we’re all seeing the same thing. That we’re not crazy or stupid. I think McCain has completely miscued this shot, and in the doing, demonstrates a total misread of the public mood. I’ve posted more on this at Polimom Says…

The Rules of Debate: Why McCain Wins the Style Points
The Next Right — First, I'm happy to see that my first instincts were the same as the McCain campaign's first instincts about last night's debate: When I was working in Alaska, I volunteered as a debate coach at a local high school. (And just to brag, we won the state debate championship and sent four people to the national tournament.) I taught my students that in any debate of any format, great substance always has to come before great style. Great style should never make bad substance good, but it can greatly enhance good substance. Much of the MSM and the blogosphere, ...

"McCain Is Right"
The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan — This ad, released during last night's debate, gets razzed by  Ezra Klein, Hilzoy, and Jonathan Cohn. Its premise is one of the saddest aspects of out current politics. A man able to concede in an argument where the other guy has a point is not thereby proving he cannot lead; he is merely showing that he can reason, and engage his opponent's views, while also saying where he disagrees. Do we really need more politicians unable to be graceful to their opponents at times? ...
