This Is A Joke, Right?
Open Left - Front Page —
So, I just watched Sarah Palin's speech on YouTube. I remain agog. Is this a joke? Do they really think this will help them win?
Palin is a total lightweight. She didn't deliver a single negative on Obama, and it is pretty obvious why. The main attack the McCain campaign has been using on Obama is his lack of experience. It simply isn't possible to deliver that negative now with a straight face. It certainly won't be possible for her to deliver any negatives on Obama. The whole thing just feels like a joke.
This is a really, really bad move by McCain. Palin isn't believable as President. She isn't believable in delivering any attacks ...
McCain’s Brilliant Choice
The Wide Awake Cafe —
I spent a sleepless night last night anticipating John McCain’s choice for veep. I don’t know why I was so antsy about it but I was. Watching the pundits at the Democrat Convention, right and left, breathlessly exclaim over Obama’s grecian, formulaic speech made my bad cold symptoms even worse. I sneezed and coughed and looked around for the tissues. I didn’t cry my eyelashes off like Oprah though.
As I thought over the past few days of Democrat politicking it’s no wonder I had such a trying time. First, the insistance that Hillary bow and scrape to Obama at the Democrat ...
The Right Choice for McCain
The Hollywood Liberal —
The Right Choice for McCain The Republicans’ presumptive nominee for president, John McCain, could make an audacious and unprecedented statement Friday. He could electrify this already-historic presidential race by selecting a vice presidential nominee who possesses bona fide economic expertise rather than standard Washington dribble. He could pick a person who would inject curiosity and excitement and instantly shift the focus from Barack Obama to St. Paul, Minn. An Analysis Of Obama’s DNC Speech From The Rude One…and it’s very rude and very true
The Democratic Daily —
The Rude One, at The Rude Pundit writes posts that are, by definition, street language and generally rude to the Right. He always backs up his rants with facts and says them in ways that bring home the crisis America faces in ways I can only envy. It’s like having Bill Maher moderate a debate. (Can you imagine?)
At the end of a long article about Barack Obama’s DNC speech where he deliberately called out the GOP for a full-fledged free-for-all election, here’s his The Rude One’s closing statement. However profane it’s the most impactful summation I’ve seen yet.
After watching ...
Tonight: The Palin Scandals versus the Conservative Backlash
Open Left - Front Page —
With yet more scandals around Palin, including her firing of a police chief who 'stepped' on her campaign contributors, the question tonight is whether independent voters will meet this young, attractive and charismatic woman and believe her story about being a small town mayor and reformer in Alaska who is being criticized solely because the media and political establishments hate outsiders. This photo is being passed around over email, with obvious class overtones, just as the irritation of Republican elites with the Palin choice was picked up accidentally over a microphone on ...
Join The Brainwatch! McCain’s Brain Falters Again…And Again…And….
Firedoglake —
Unfortunately for John McCain, over many years he abused his brain. Head trauma (blows to the head) and binge drinking are both associated with increased risk of brain problems in later life. In recent weeks, McCain's repeatedly had difficulty remembering basic information. He's even had ...
Harry Moroz: A Video Letter from the Nation's Mayors to Obama and McCain
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
As final preparations for the last presidential debate are made - water glasses weighed and secret memoranda consulted - both candidates have revamped their economic plans for the economic crisis now gripping the country.
McCain was uncertain, at first, about whether to release a revised plan. But even after deciding that certain "economic news and conditions" demanded such action, he seems to have omitted several critical elements from the proposal. No, if you were concerned, he remembered to include a cut in the capital gains tax. And yes, if you're worried he was going soft, he will employ a surge strategy ...
Sarah Palin reveals her biggest lesson from defeat
Top of the Ticket —
Looking back on the Republicans' unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign with Arizona Sen. John McCain at the top of the ticket, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin now says her role as the VP nominee was "99.9% amazing and invigorating and inspiring."
And while the Aug. 29 announcement of her pick was a politically stunning surprise that sucked all the publicity air out of Barack Obama's Greek-columned, triumphant Denver stadium rally 10 hours before, Palin learned some valuable lessons during the ensuing exhausting weeks. One of them is to go with her gut more and have her own ...
