davis111 This makes me so angry to see this video. I think people tend to forget(and I mean white people) that Barack Obama was raised by his white mother, without the influence of his black father at all. So for people to say that he is anti-white, and that they are afraid the blacks will take over, just shows that white people are pissed off at the fact that a man who may have the least ounce of black in him could possibly lead the country. Get over it people, its a new day. Forget the fact that this man looks a little bit more black than white and look at the person who is going to help the American people, John McCain certainly isn't the right one for the job!!!!!!!!!!
A Report From Eastern Ohio

The calm behind the fear is what unnerves me. More context here:
Transcript of the comments about Ohio after the jump: "I'm afraid if he wins, the black [sic] will take over. He's not a

like?"
"When you got a Negro running for president, you need a first stringer. He's definitely a second stringer."

I have been wondering recently, as Obama climbs in the polls, if the conventional wisdom after the election might be that Rove-style smear politics are less effective these days. Obviously we’ll never get rid of the grit of our political life and attack ads are here to stay, but maybe vicious attacks on patriotism and ...

Note to the Palin crowd: Your roots are showing
Orcinus —
-- by Dave It was kind of strange, dintcha think, that John McCain came to the defense of his supporters last night after Barack Obama pointed out that people at McCain/Palin rallies were shouting out "terrorist" and "kill him!" in reference to Obama. Now an Al Jazeera camera crew caught the honest sentiments of McCain/Palin supporters at an Ohio rally: “I’m afraid if he wins, the blacks will take over. He’s not a Christian! This is a Christian nation! What is our country gonna end up like?” “When you got a Nigger running for president, you need a first ...
Not Out of the Woods Yet?
TalkLeft —
Booman Tribune has this video of a Sarah Palin rally that will make you want to throw up. ? Does it mean Obama isn't out of the woods yet? I don't think so. There are more of us than them. The radical right fringe exist but not in enough numbers to take over our Government -- if all of us get out and vote. It's a good reminder though that we can't take anything for granted and everyone has to get out and vote -- early if possible, to avoid the chance something will go awry at your polling station.

Secret Service Keeping Press From Palin and Event Attendees
MoJo Blog Posts: mojo —
So says Dana Milbank:
I have to say the Secret Service is in dangerous territory here. In cooperation with the Palin campaign, they've started preventing reporters from leaving the press section to interview people in the crowd. This is a serious violation of their duty -- protecting the protectee -- and gets into assisting with the political aspirations of the candidate. It also often makes it impossible for reporters to get into the crowd to question the people who say vulgar things. So they prevent reporters from getting near the people doing the shouting, then claim it's unfounded because the reporters can't get close enough to identify the ...

Charles J. Brown: Palin: The Worst Angels of Our Nature
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
Unless something unexpected happens in the next nineteen days, the American people will elect Barack Obama to be the next President of the United States, and will do so by a large enough margin to give him the mandate he needs to address the numerous problems caused by that disaster known as the Bush Administration.
The challenges will be immense. And should Obama stumble, Sarah Palin will be waiting in the wings.
Like it or not, an Obama victory will not end the Palin threat. She is already laying the groundwork for a run in 2012. And given her actions over the past two months, it is a safe bet that she will do everything in her power to win. ...

Wednesday night McCain, who knows how to always make himself seem like he and his-- or rather Palin's-- followers are the long-suffering victims of the war against Christmas or Easter or something, defended, valiantly, the fine folks who go to the Palin rallies. The ones who scream racist epithets and threaten violence against Barack Obama. He said he's "proud" of them (just like he's proud of G. Gordon Liddy, a terrorist he pals around with). Let's meet some of the McCain-Palin rally goers he's so proud of... in Ohio: Did you miss some of that? Some of these men and women might ...
Ohio Says the "N" Word
The Latest on Air America —
For those of us who don't live in culturally unique places, like rural Ohio, it may seem unlikely that race tensions are sufficiently high to warrant any rightheaded fear of an attack on Obama. This al Jazeera video reported by Casey Kauffman puts the lie to any cosmopolitan lack of concern.

Hullabaloo — No Choice by digby Poor McCain. Since John Lewis spoke out about the ugly behavior at Republican campaign events, St John has been left with no choice but to do what he really didn't want to do: John McCain's campaign manager says he is reconsidering using Barack Obama's relationship with Reverend Jeremiah Wright as a campaign issue during the election's closing weeks. In an appearance on conservative Hugh Hewitt's radio program, Davis said that circumstances had changed since John McCain initially and unilaterally took Obama's former pastor off the table. The Arizona Republican, Davis argued, had been jilted by ...

Tony Burman: Shocking Racism at Palin Rally: Al Jazeera Report Starts Controversy
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
The U.S. presidential race is mesmerizing the world. The result is hundreds of hours of unprecedented news coverage about the U.S. on international news channels -- including the one that I run, the English-language channel of Al Jazeera.
So why has one of our news reports -- on a channel that is broadcast in 120 million households worldwide but not throughout most of the U.S. -- triggered so much controversy in this country?
Perhaps because it was a tough take on at least one issue -- race -- that is being poorly reported by most of America's mainstream media.
On October 12, one of our reporters interviewed people attending a Sarah ...
