Obama and Wright: He Never Complained Once
USS Neverdock —
USS Neverdock "America is often portrayed as an ignorant, unsophisticated sort of place, full of bible bashers and ruled to a dangerous extent by trashy television, superstition and religious bigotry, a place lacking in respect for evidence based knowledge. I know that is how it is portrayed because I have done my bit to paint that picture..." BBC's Washington correspondent Justin Webb

Ben Smith's Blog —
The National Republican Trust PAC, which aired one harsh anti-Obama ad that it also used to fundraise on Drudge and elsewhere, says it's putting $2.5 million behind this spot in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida.
The ad is exactly what many conservatives have been hoping would air for months: A Jeremiah Wright highlight reel, with a voice-over describing the pastor's long relationship with Obama.
"For 20 years, Obama never complained, until he ran for president," says the ad, which labels Obama, "too radical, too risky."
"This is the base giving a collective direction to where the ...

Playing The Wright Card
The Stump —
The RNC finally does it, to the tune of $2.5 million. A footnote to the main show: Notice how the bolded white words onscreen morph from HATE to GOD, as in, HATE GOD. Not that anyone doubts Obama's Christianity. Oh, wait. Also: The ad is airing in three states--Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania--that Obama can now afford to lose. --Michael Crowley

Video: The Wright Stuff posted at 3:05 pm on October 27, 2008 by Ed Morrissey Send to a Friend | printer-friendly Politico’s Ben Smith reports that at least one PAC will go after Jeremiah Wright and his ties to Barack Obama, even if John McCain keeps it off limits to his own campaign. The National Republican Trust PAC will run this 30-second spot in battleground states Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida: The ad raises two questions. First, is Wright fair game? The McCain campaign has sent mixed signals on this, but Barack Obama himself acknowledged that voters legitimately can consider his long association with the radical preacher ...

Too little, too late, perhaps, but they may as well get it out there. Just remember, Barack Obama sat there listening to this crap for 20 years, but pretended not to hear it. Sure. New Wright Ad Attacks Obama in Battlegrounds

Previous | Main New Wright Ad Attacks Obama in Battlegrounds October 27, 2008 3:53 PM ABC News’ Rick Klein Reports: A Republican political action committee on Monday is launching a new TV ad campaign in three battleground states featuring Sen. Barack Obama alongside the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, in the latest salvo from a GOP-aligned group to use clips of Obama’s controversial former pastor. The ad, from the National Republican Trust PAC, features now-famous video of Wright declaring “God damn America,” and the “US of KKKA.” “For 20 years Barack Obama followed a preacher of hate and said nothing as Wright raged against our country,” the ad ...
The Wright Card Is Finally Played
The Anonymous Liberal —
The Politico is reporting that a 527 group, the National Republican Trust PAC, is going on the air with a $2.5 million ad buy in Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania. Here's the ad: It ends with this: Barack Obama. Too Radical. Too Risky. It might as well say "too black." I mean, who's kidding who? My guess is that this is too little too late and that it will be seen by most as desparate and diversionary. I hope so.

McCain said hands of on Obama and the Reverend Wright, but somehow the National Republican PAC mustn’t have gotten the message.
Could it be more desperate? “Sometimes, when a political campaign has run out of ideas and senses that the prize is slipping through its fingers, it rolls up a sleeve and plunges an arm, shoulder deep, right down to the bottom of the barrel.”
Yes, it could be. Cry socialism and unleash the dogs of war the war of words even if they are not quite right ...
Wright Happens
MoJo Blog Posts: mojo —
The other shoe finally drops. A group called the National Republican Trust PAC is making a $2.5 million ad buy with the first Jeremiah Wright ad of the campaign. You have to wonder how this campaign would have been different if McCain hadn't chosen the Wright issue to make a stand (his only such stand, it seems) for dignity, respect, and positive campaigning. I can't be the only one who sees a far more difficult path for Obama if ads like the one below are playing regularly from August to November.
By the way, why was McCain willing to go whole hog on Ayers, but still hasn't touched Wright? It makes ...

Preacher of Hate
RIGHTWINGSPARKLE —
Republican Pac is airing this in swing states. I'm so glad they are doing this. It is beyond ridiculous that McCain isn't using this. If McCain had followed a racist preacher for 20 yrs, who he named his most famous book after one of his preacher's sermons, and who believed that black people spread AIDS, I think it would be campaign issue, don't you??? Good grief. Every time I see this preacher I want to scream. Just a reminder. Obama in 2004: " Oh, I admire Wright so much. I named my book after one of his sermons. He's one of my heros. He married me and Michelle and baptised my ...
The Return of Jeremiah Wright
Power Line —
After too long an absence from the campaign, Jeremiah Wright returns in this television ad which is running in several key states.
It's a legitimate issue and a good ad, and if a financial panic hadn't hit at the worst possible moment, Wright and Ayers might have made a big difference in the campaign. In the climate we're facing, though, I doubt that Obama's associations, no matter how troubling they may be, are swaying many votes. Which doesn't mean that the Republicans shouldn't keep talking about them.

John McCain has said that he will not use Jeremiah Wright as an issue in this campaign. He believes that it is a “religious issue” and outside the bounds of political discussion. Race-Tinged Attack Ads Start Flowing From Right In Campaign's Home Stretch
TPM Election Central —
The outside groups on the right are starting to hit the race panic button as time runs out and things look increasingly dire.
The National Republican Trust PAC, for instance, just reported to the FEC that it sank nearly $900,000 into a new ad buy, most likely for this spot hitting Obama with a bunch of footage of Jeremiah Wright's rants:
The group had previously vowed to spend some $2.5 million on the spot, so this current buy falls short, but nonetheless amounts to real ad cash. (There's still more time, obviously, for the group to do a second buy.)
Meanwhile, ...

Top 60 Memorable Campaign Ads Of 2008
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
It is tradition in every campaign for each side to denounce the other as having run the sleaziest race in modern political history. And certainly it seems like every day brings with it a new attack ad deemed "the worst one yet."
While historians are generally skittish when it comes to such claims -- pointing out that past years witnessed some serious mudslinging of their own -- it is hard to dismiss just how dirty and/or memorable some of the attack ads have been this election cycle.
Many times it is an outside group hurling the sludge. On several occasions the notably nasty or remarkable stuff is aired during a Congressional race. ...

Ace of Spades HQ —
Very Odd Red State Ad Buy This AM - [Cuffy Meigs] Yours truly lives in the deepest of deep red states, so you could imagine my surprise when I saw this ad playing during the first commercial break of NBC's Today Show: As it was interspersed among local yokel campaign ads for judges and sheriffs, it was surely a local market buy. And it was the first time I'd ever seen that ad on real TV, not YouTube. Alabama is kinda sorta a conservative bastion --- really , believe it --- and not considered a battleground state. So why would the GOP Trust PAC waste money running it here of all places ... on Election Day morning? The obvious answer from the MSM is, well, ...
Jeremiah Wright, former pastor of Barack Obama, stars in an anti-Obama spot after all
Top of the Ticket —
While Sen. John McCain has puzzled even running mate Sarah Palin for refusing to make an issue of Sen. Barack Obama’s former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, others are taking up what they perceive to be the slack.
Ohio airwaves have been saturated in the closing days of the campaign with clips of the former Trinity United Church of Christ pastor in an anti-Obama TV ad (or see video below) by the National Republican Trust, an independent political action committee. The group has said it will spend $2.5 million to air a 30-second spot, not just in the battleground state of Ohio, but also in Florida and Pennsylvania.
