McCain camp targets media "love" for Obama
Jonathan Martin's Blog —
The McCain campaign is picking up where Saturday Night Live left off: Guilting reporters for purportedly being soft on Barack Obama.
They've begun a contest on their website under the headline: "The Media is in LOVE with Barack"
"Pick the best song for their devotion," they ask readers, offering the same compilation video of TV news clips gushing over the Democratic candidate set to two different love ballads.
Asked why they are engaging in media-bashing, McCain spokesman Brian Rogers replied: "Love for 'The One' is in the air."

McCain Campaign Targets Media "Love" For Obama In New Video
TPM Election Central —
The campaign of John McCain -- who once described the media as his "base" -- has come up with an intriguing way to portray the media as "in love" with Barack Obama, blasting this video right into the in-boxes of the swooning reporters themselves...
It actually is a pretty funny idea, we have to admit. Still, that said, McCain is no stranger to media adulation.
The McCain camp is holding an online contest for folks to decide between two versions of the "Obama love" vid. The first is above; the second is after the jump.

Ben Smith's Blog —
McCain mocks the media, trying to coax the creaky conservative grievance apparatus back to life, overwhelmed as it is presently by its liberal counterpart.
"It's pretty obvious that the media has a bizarre fascination with Barack Obama. Some may even say it's a love affair. We want you to be the judge. We've compiled two videos of the more outrageous moments of this not so secret love affair," says the campaign email to supporters. "The media is in love with Barack Obama. If it wasn't so serious, it would be funny."
In truth, and while there are other dynamics going on, the ...

McCain camp releases "Obama Love"
Michael Calderone's Blog —
You think the McCain campaign is bitter about Obama coverage? Yesterday, they were leaking to Drudge about the NY Times, and today the campaign releases a greatest hits collection of fawning media behavior: "Obama Love"
It's ironic given that McCain, who's joked about his reporter "base," is now taking on the media (including pundits like Chris Matthews who have gushed for years about the "maverick" Senator).
New John McCain Ads Show Media In Love With Obama
The Huffington Post | Full News Feed —
Two new ads from John McCain's campaign — one of which the campaign says will make it on air — show what they call the media's "love affair" with Barack Obama. The ads feature news personalities — including Joe Scarborough, Tucker Carlson, Lou Dobbs, and Howie Kurtz — discussing Obama-mania in the media, highlight now-infamous statements from the likes of MSNBC's Chris Matthews and NBC's Lee Cowan, and even bring back some Hillary Clinton supporters' statements of media bias towards Obama.
The campaign is currently featuring both videos on its website and asking users to vote to see which one makes ...
More Media Bashing From The McCain Campaign
The Atlantic Politics Channel —
ROCHESTER, NH -- "We no longer expect the media to do their jobs," one of McCain's top aides told me yesterday. "We're just going to have to do it for them."
Media-bashing is a time-honored tradition patented by Republicans in the 1970s as a key feature of grievance politics. So successful, in fact, that it's become a mainstay of the new liberal activism. Unlike other conservatives, until now, McCain hasn't had to worry about bypassing the media and hasn't been a media decredentialist. (Truth is, the media, like most other major American institutions, has been slowly losing influence since the 60s.) Today, ...

Wow. Maybe Phil Gramm was right about that 'nation of whiners' thing - except maybe he should have qualified it and said 'a nation of Republican whiners. Is the McThuselah campaign consciously trying to re-define the word 'pathetic?'
So, McCain Is Still Running, Right?
Hyscience —
Given the lack of coverage, compared to Obama, one could only guess.
Unquestionably, the media is indeed in the tank for Obama (HT Ace):
And, as one can clearly see in his framing of blaming it on the Republicans and McCain, Marc Ambinder has jumped into the tank as well. Has this dude gone deaf and blind, or is he just dumb?
(Be sure to go to the McCain website and vote for the media's Obama love anthem. Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" is winning. )

Political Animal —
Well, I’ve finally seen everything. John McCain, who enjoys more media affection than any political figure in recent memory, has taken to complaining that reporters are overly fond of Barack Obama.
The video is a three-minute montage the McCain campaign put together with “evidence” of the media’s pro-Obama bias. Most of the clip is made up of comments from Chris Matthews and remarks from various surrogates for the Clinton campaign during the Democratic primary.

Mocking The Media Always Helps
The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan —

McCain really is taking tips from the Clinton campaign:
I agree with Ben Smith:
In truth, and while there are other dynamics going on, the central issue is just sheer volume. There's vastly more public interest in, and coverage of, Obama. His rise is a better, newer, story. That means that McCain's message has been muted; but his missteps are too. He's been able, in particular, to make it this far with a domestic policy agenda whose sheer vagueness wouldn't have ...

Weekly Standard Blog —
It's official: The media are consumed by the fire of their love for Barack Obama:
And the public is catching on. As I noted earlier today, a new Rasmussen report shows that "49% of voters believe most reporters will try to help the Democrat with their coverage." And 45 percent think that "most reporters would hide information if it hurt the candidate they wanted to win." How could the public possibly come to that conclusion?

July 23, 2008 7/23: Another Foreign Policy Gaffe? Liberal bloggers are hammering John McCain for incorrectly asserting that the Iraq troop surge "began the Anbar Awakening" (in reality, the Anbar Awakening began months before the surge strategy was implemented). Liberal bloggers are describing McCain's statement as a "breathtaking" mistake that "disqualifies him from being president" . They're also tying McCain's remark to his other Iraq-related misstatements -- such as confusing Shiites and Sunnis and making an incorrect statement about troop levels -- and arguing that the presumptive ...

Clueless Lehrer: What Obama Bias?
JammieWearingFool —
Safely ensconced in his media bubble, PBS anchor Jiom Lehrer laughably concludes there's no media bias toward Barack Obama. Jim Lehrer, anchor of "The NewsHour" on PBS, doesn't believe the media are favoring Barack Obama. "I don't see that," Lehrer, 74, told me. "There's an ebb and a flow to the news, and it will dictate how much news coverage there is going to be. The word 'bias' does not sit with me." Well Mr. Lehrer, if the word "bias" does not sit well with you, does "in the tank for", "in love with", "adoring", "fawning" or "shill" work for you? Maybe Mr. Lehrer needs to watch Obama Love, which is nothing more than ...

There is no doubt: in the past few weeks John McCain has made a conscious decision to run a negative, personalized campaign against Barack Obama. A campaign that was once focused on pushing the biographic attributes of its own candidate has now become almost uniquely intent on tearing down the opponent.
This reading is objective. In the past month, the McCain campaign has launched ten web and television advertisements. The first two spots were almost entirely devoted to McCain. The last eight contained only three brief mentions of the Arizona Republican. Indeed, of the 16 minutes and 35 seconds of space that these eight ...
