MoveOn launches healthcare TV ad in Montana, Iowa MoveOn.org, the liberal grassroots organization, is launching a new add supporting President Obama's healthcare plan. The ad will run in Montana, Iowa and on D.C. cable. The spot is, well, clever. It shows two men in suits ranting about how Obama's healthcare plan could put them out of business. "If Obama's public health insurance option passes, it will be a disaster for us," one character says. The ad makes it look like the men are healthcare executives when (surprise!) it is revealed at the end of the ad that they work in a funeral home. As President Obama looks ahead to pushing health care reform, some Democrats are splitting when it comes to including a public option within the plan.
Former DNC Chairman Howard Dean urged progressives to keep Obama's feet to the fire and demand a public option be included, while key Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus has said he's wary about that being politically feasible.
Dean launched a new petition drive to shore up support for the idea, and MoveOn.org is tackling the issue as well in this new ad:
