Progressive Group Ad Targets Obama For Imperiling Public Option
TPM Election Central —
In response to news first reported by TPMDC, that the White House is pushing back on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's inclination to include an optional government insurance program in the Senate's health care bill, one of the left's most hardline progressive groups is taking aim directly at President Obama.
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee will air a new TV ad and is gathering signatures on an emergency petition warning the administration not to support a health care compromise, favored by Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME), that could kill the public option. ...

Previous | Main Liberal Group Urges Obama Not to Cater to GOP's Olympia Snowe on Public Option October 24, 2009 2:03 PM Liberals are telling President Obama not to cater to Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine. Davis My colleague, ABC News' Teddy Davis , has more: A liberal group launched a television ad and petition on Saturday pressuring President Obama on the public option. Watch it HERE: The new ad by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee will air at least 100 times in Maine, broadcast and cable, augmented by online fundraising at YesWeStillCan.org . The PCCC's prior Maine ad raised over ...
PCCC: 'Time to Fight'
Ben Smith's Blog —
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee is going up with this new spot -- accompanied by an "emergency petition" -- in Maine.
It's narrated by a former Obama campaign Maine staffer, who says Obama "campaigned on" the public option (it was in his policy statements, though he rarely mentioned it and generally ran from the right in the primary on health care) and that he owes it to Mainers to fight Olympia Snowe on the issue.

Progressive Video Pushes Obama for Public Option

Tough pro-public-option video from a former Obama campaign staffer in Maine, President Obama: It's Time To Fight
Video by the Progressive Change Campaign Comission. It gets a nice shot in at Olympia Snowe, too. She deserves it since her stand seems entirely unprincipled and driven by fear of her caucus.
One thing, though: although an Obama campaign white paper did mention the public option, he really didn't campaign on it. Indeed, Obama's somewhat cautious health care policy was one of the reasons why I wasn't a bigger fan in the primaries. ...
Olympia Snowe Doesn't Represent Anyone Except A Small Bunch Of Out Of Touch Republicans In Maine-- And The Insurance Industry
DownWithTyranny! —
She hasn't taken quite as much as Maine's other Republican senator, Susan Collins, but Olympia Snowe has accepted $416,490 from the Insurance Industry. They didn't give her that much money because they like her hairstyle, her perfect attendance record or even her faux-centrist ability to help get some of the worst judges in the history of America-- like Priscilla Owens, William Pryor and Janice Rogers Brown-- confirmed by the Senate. Oh, no, no, no; like the lobbyists and CEOs from the Medical Industrial Complex, who have doled out $760,440 in campaign "donations," they were paying protection money so that Snowe would use her much ...

Progressive Group Ad To Pressure Obama On Public Option
TalkLeft —
What will Obama do? It is quite remarkable it seems to me that whether Obama will support a public option is an open question. It's one thing to be a bystander, quite another to wade in in favor of Snowe's trigger. And yet, it appears that privately that is what the President is doing. Harry Reid is going to bring a public option to a vote. Will Obama lobby against it publically? I think he might. Amazing. Speaking for me only

Rouge Times
MyDD —
Who knew that Reid could go rouge too? President Barack Obama is actively discouraging Senate Democrats in their effort to include a public insurance option with a state opt-out clause as part of health care reform. In its place, say multiple Democratic sources, Obama has indicated a preference for an alternative policy, favored by the ...

Obama: How Long Will He Refuse To Fight?
Open Left - Front Page —
White House Deputy Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer posted this on the White House blog tonight: A rumor is making the rounds that the White House and Senator Reid are pursuing different strategies on the public option. Those rumors are absolutely false. In his September 9th address to Congress, President Obama made clear that he supports the public option because it has the potential to play an essential role in holding insurance companies accountable through choice and competition. That continues to be the President's position. Senator Reid and his leadership team are now working to get the most ...
