Morning Roundup: Around the Web with Boltin' Joe
The Latest on Air America —
The New York Times waxes thoughtful on what cheap gas (some places as low as a buck fiddy) means for the average American. The answer: they still can't afford to drive. Self-defense murder deaths is are on the rise in the United States (it's called "justifiable homicide" among the bloodthirsty set), and Alternet wants to know why. Lobbyists hate Obama's lobbyist-free zone. Today the Washington Times reports that big pharm is getting ready to beat the crap out of Obama for his promise to limit prices on prescription medicine. Let the GOP Bam-bashing begin. Jane Hamsher wonders if Lieberman will apologize for being such a ...
Reasons To Dump Lieberman
TalkLeft —
While I think Barack Obama is right (and if anyone is kidding them self that Obama is not calling the shot on this, well . . ) to look for a way to neutralize Joe Lieberman while keeping him in the Dem caucus, there is certainly a strong argument for not keeping him. Ed Kilgore makes it here. And Rachel Maddow gave the brief last night on her show: I admit I am more concerned with the John Brennans and Cass Susnteins surrounding Obama than this, but hey, maybe folks are right to pressure on this. It would be more interesting I think if they actually pressured the guy who is calling the shot- Barack ...
Rachel on Lieberman
Daily Kos —
Some high powered assistance on the Lieberman battle from Rachel: We get it. Rachel gets it. The people of Connecticut get it. The only people who don't seem to get it are the capitulating Democrats in the Senate.

Obama Shunning Lieberman
Firedoglake —
Joe Lieberman is now reaching out to Obama and Biden to make nicey-nice, save his Homeland Security Chairmanship, let bygones be bygones, yadda yadda. But Obama evidently handed him off to Biden, even as he's taking calls from Republicans. (As Markos says, "So he's reaching out ...
Maddow Amplifies Our Point About Lieberman
Open Left - Front Page —
Many in the blogosphere, including OpenLeft (here and here), have noted that the removal of Joe Lieberman from his committee post isn't about revenge - it's about political pragmatism. In specific, it's about making sure a guy who has repeatedly displayed his deep personal and irrational hatred for Barack Obama doesn't have the subpoena power to embark on witch hunts against President Obama. MSNBC's Rachel Maddow last night took all of those arguments and summed them up in a really great piece:
So, to reiterate - removing Lieberman is not about revenge, it's about helping make sure the next administration ...
Do The Democrats Even Deserve A Filibuster-Proof Majority?
DownWithTyranny! —
I hope Jim Martin beats Saxby Chambliss. I hope he beats him by a lot. Chambliss is one of the worst members on the Senate, both in terms of his unbelievably extremist voting record and in terms of his utter disregard for even the vaguest sense of personal ethics. Lately he's taken to defending his putrid ad against Max Cleland, which even John McCain denounced as reprehensible and is now running a similar a similar smear tactic against Jim Martin. As much as his ad campaigns, Chambliss himself is reprehensible. And, like I said above, I hope Martin defeats him. So why no fundraising campaign here? Jim Martin actually ...

Saturday Rachel Maddow Blogging
Brilliant at Breakfast —
Rachel gives the Democrats hell about their spinelessness in not disciplining Holy Joe Lieberman: Rachel is absolutely right. Joe Lieberman has become so much of a Republican in heart and soul that he would take great joy in crossing over to vote with them to filibuster Democratic legislation that he, ...
Rachel Maddow Redux: Dangers of Keeping Lieberman in Caucus, From November 2008
Firedoglake —
Lieberman said he “feared” the 60 vote Democratic majority shortly after the election. Well, sure is a good thing we gave him oversight over Homeland Security, allowed him to use it as a power base and let him have his gavel without any agreement whatsoever to support the caucus on procedural ...
