Chairman Steele Speaks
Flopping Aces —
Steele highlights the Republican innovative ideas for bringing our economic back from the brink. Ideas that work, ideas that help Jane and Joe American, not Dem special interest groups.
Exerpt from his speech under the cut.
Not only is Steele cleaning house, he is bringing common sense to this bailout boondoggle:
“Democrats in Congress want a one-trillion dollar spending bill. You’ve heard about the pork-barrel programs they want to fund… 45 million dollars for ATV trails and removal of fish passage barriers is one that caught my eye. Exactly what is a fish passage ...

Steele Touts GOP Alternatives on Stimulus
News —
Steele Touts GOP Alternatives on Stimulus Americans should wonder whether Democrats' power has gone to their head, new Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele said in the Republicans' weekly radio address on Saturday. Steele called on the Congress to pass a package more focused on tax cuts instead of spending increases, saying that much of the stimulative impact of the Democratic package would be wasted. "When Washington spends the money, some of it might flow into the economy, but, all too often, much gets wasted," Steele said. He went on to lambaste "pork barell" programs in the stimulus, and defended Republicans' having voted against the package in the ...

The Saturday Word: The Latest Deal
The Caucus —
Late last night, Democrats and a couple of renegade Republicans eked out a deal on the Senate version of the stimulus package, but the process is far from over. The details are still hazy, but the senators announced that they cut about $110 billion from the bill – a figure that will likely not be enough to gain the support of additional Republicans, achieved through cuts that are likely to anger the House Democrats who passed the initial version. Among the measures likely to prompt the most outcry as they’re swept from the cutting room floor: some of the tax cuts aimed at the middle class, as well as $40 billion in aid to states (after all, furloughs aren’t just for ...

Obama Address: "We Can't Afford To Make Perfect The Enemy Of The Absolutely Necessary"
In this weekend's YouTube address, President Obama gives his support to the newest version of the stimulus plan, and says it is vitally important to pass the bill:
"Legislation of such magnitude deserves the scrutiny that it's received over the last month, and it will receive more in the days to come," says Obama. "But we can't afford to make perfect the enemy of the absolutely necessary. The scale and scope of this plan is right. And the time for action is now."

Steele: The Democrats’ power has gone to their heads posted at 3:15 pm on February 7, 2009 by Allahpundit Send to a Friend | Share on Facebook | printer-friendly Fine on substance but a bit more stilted in delivery than I expected from a guy so media savvy, especially given the base’s passion on this subject. Steele’s used to going off the cuff in his role as telepundit; see, e.g., his RNC acceptance speech for how comfortable he is speaking extemporaneously. Maybe he should prep for these things that way — start with an outline of points and then do it impromptu in a few takes, stitching together the best parts of each. He needs to be on his game, as ...
