Robyn74 Does anyone read newspapers anymore? -
Erin I don't, but I could name at least a half-dozen.-
Thea123 Our next vp appears sort of vague, vapid, vacillating, vacuous and voluable, when she verifies she is a voracious viewer of a "vast variety" of vicarious, veritas containing news venues, like, "The Wasilla Whines Weekly," that provide vivid, vocal vision to our valiant, yet vacant, varmit hunting, putatively potential, next president. :)-
Erin Dr. Seuss would agree!

CBS: Palin can't name one single newspaper or magazine that she has EVER read in her life
AMERICAblog News| A great nation deserves the truth —
I just, I'm speechless watching this. The transcript is after the video, below. Katie Couric asks her a simple question: What magazines or newspapers did you read regularly before being picked for VP? Palin can't name one. She then gets all defensive about how Alaska isn't a foreign country or something. Okay. But Couric kept asking her, okay, can you just name one that you've read. Palin couldn't name any. I mean, seriously, she couldn't name her local town paper, the big paper from Anchorage (the Anchorage Daily News), she never goes online and reads AP or Reuters? Never read Newsweek or TIME? I mean, seriously, why is she incapable of giving ...
Palin and the press
Ben Smith's Blog —
She blanks when asked by Couric what she reads -- another moment where it's not that her reaction isn't normal, but rather that she hasn't acquired the public figure's trick of smoothly turning the question if you can't answer it directly. But she does have a bit of a lecture for the press:
"Well, I have a degree in journalism also, so it surprises me that so much has changed since I received my education in journalistic ethics all those years ago," she tells Hugh Hewitt in an interview that includes a shot at Obama's "extreme" abortion stance.

You were warned. Alaska's a microcosm of America. Go. Play.
Can it get any worse?
Sadly, No! —
Uh-oh! The wicked, naughty elite media establishment is asking sweet, innocent Sarah Palin another nasty “Gotcha!” question! In this case, they had the audacity to ask, “Sarah, what do you like to read?” The results can be seen here:
Now, not to be too much of an elitist here, but if you’re routinely getting your ass kicked by Katie Couric softballs — and are even missing badly on Sean Hannity’s batting tee offerings — you stand no shot at standing up to Vladimir Putin. Of course, this clip will probably endear her further to our nation’s ...
Sarah Palin Answers What Newspapers, Magazines Inform Her Worldview: "Most Of 'Em...All Of 'Em...Any Of 'Em," "Alaska Is Like A Microcosm Of America"
The Huffington Post | Full News Feed —
During their interview Monday, Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin what newspapers and magazines she read to inform her worldview before being tapped as John McCain's Vice Presidential running mate. And Tuesday on the "CBS Evening News," Palin's answer was revealed: "most of them," "all of 'em," and "any of 'em."
Palin would not, or could not, name a specific news source, saying only, "I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' ...

The Interview That Keeps on Giving
Daily Kos —
Another moose in the headlights moment, courtesy of Governor Sarah Palin: Transcript via ThinkProgress: COURIC: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this — to stay informed and to understand the world? PALIN: I’ve read most of them again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media — COURIC: But what ones specifically? I’m curious. PALIN: Um, ...
That oughta earn her brownie points with the print media…

COURIC: “What newspapers and magazines did you regularly read…?”
PALIN: “I’ve read most of them.”
Get that? She couldn’t even name a single newspaper or magazine. No wonder she’s so well informed.
Palin won't name papers, magazines she reads
Jonathan Martin's Blog —
In an interview with CBS's Katie Couric that aired tonight on the Evening News, Sarah Palin declined to name any newspapers or magazines that she reads to keep up on world events.
Palin said she read "all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years."
Asked by Couric three times to specifically name any publications, Palin kept speaking in general term.s
Is this just nervousness and a fear of naming a publication that will be politically problematic (say, a certain New York City broadsheet)?
Or has she simply not kept up with national papers and magazines?
As ...

Palin Cannot Name any Newspapers or Magazines She Reads
Informed Comment —
Remember how Sarah Palin said that she explored foreign countries through books and how implausible that was? Now it turns out that she can't even name any newspapers or magazines that she reads reqularly. Pressed by Katie Couric, she said she reads 'all of them, any of them.' In a 2006 Pew poll, only 40 percent of Americans said that they read a newspaper "yesterday." So Palin is in the 60% and not that unusual. What I mind about her is that she keeps trying to bluff her way past such questions and doesn't just admit the truth. Does she think the American people won't vote for ...

Daily Kos —
Take it from someone who knows first hand, and says pretty much the same thing: When he faces off against Sarah Palin Thursday night, Joe Biden will have his hands full. I should know. I've debated Governor Palin more than two dozen times. And she's a master, not of facts, figures, or insightful policy recommendations, but at the fine art of the nonanswer, the glittering generality. Against such charms there is little Senator Biden, or anyone, can do. This is the testimony of Andrew Halcro, an independent candidate in Alaska's 2006 gubernatorial contest in which Palin was victorious. It was in her debates ...
Sarah Palin Was Annoyed
Daily Kos —
Did that Washington elitist, Katie Couric, annoy Sarah Palin, also? Well, doggone it, you betcha: I did feel there were a lot of things she was missing in terms of an opportunity to ask what a VP candidate stands for, what the values are that are represented in our ticket. I guess I have to apologize for being a bit annoyed, but that’s also an indication about being outside that Washington elite, outside that media elite also, and just wanting to talk to Americans without the filter and let them know what we stand for. Because, you know, Couric didn't ask her about the issues regular, real, Joe Six-Pack, ...

Daniel Kurtzman: 2008's Most Laughable Political Antics
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
In a year when everyone was looking for a bailout, politicians did more for political comedy than any other industry. We had governors gone rogue, reverends gone wild, shoe-throwers, imaginary snipers and, of course, everyone's favorite mavericky, Prada-wearing hockey mom. As a salute to those who made this the funniest year since, well, last year, here's a look back at 2008's most memorable feats and foibles, in words and glorious video:

A couple of months ago, I wrote about the tired state of the Republican Party and how it desperately needs to blow past the disastrous Bush years and rediscover its core values. But months after being overwhelmingly rejected by the American people, the Republican Party remains unable to recapture its substance. Instead, we have only seen more pandering to the fanatics and dim bulbs, more of the same putrid ideas and more power-plays that evoke politics before country -- while the economy crashes and burns.
Weeks after the election, a Gallup Poll recorded that 67% of Republicans wanted Sarah Palin to be the party nominee in 2012. A recent ...

Top of the Ticket —
Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin may not have been able to name a news publication she reads in last year's interview with Katie Couric during her unsuccessful bid as the Republican nominee for vice-president.
But now we know that Sen. John McCain's 2008 running mate reads Newsweek -- at least in less-than-140-character doses on her Twitter page. Also, the Juneau Empire, the Weekly Standard, Meet the Press, blogs from Politico and Karl Rove, several prominent Republican politicians and Mark Begich, Alaska's new Democratic senator.

Variations on the expression, "I can see Russia from my house," have become so common that it's hard to imagine it's only been a year since Sarah Palin catapulted onto the national scene when John McCain announced his decision to make her his running mate on August 29, 2008.
Since then, the former Alaska governor has become one of the country's best-known politicians, consistently named one of the top three choices for Republican presidential candidate in 2012, an object of ridicule to some, and an easy punchline for late-night comics.
Herewith, videos of Palin's most memorable TV moments from the past year:

Oprah wouldn't go into much detail, but she said that she and the former governor of Alaska talked about "everything." Today, CBS has two choice segments from their conversation, set to air Monday, November 16th.
"One final question about Levi," Oprah asks in the first clip: "will he be invited to Thanksgiving dinner?"
Palin laughs. "You know, that's a great question." It's also a question that Palin doesn't seem to want to answer. "It's lovely to think that he would ever even consider such a thing," she says. "Because, of ...
Thoughts on Sarah Palin and Going Rogue
The Volokh Conspiracy —
Like Ilya, I’ve been reading Sarah Palin’s book and following her media appearances. It’s difficult to say anything original about a polarizing figure such as Palin. And no matter what you say, around half of the VC readership will be convinced you are a complete idiot (which half depending on which side you take). But that aside, I wanted to add in a few thoughts of my own to the mix.
What I find most striking about Palin is that she seems to have no real interest in governance. She has charisma and oodles of attitude, and they are like catnip to a significant part of the GOP base. But she doesn’t seem genuinely interested in the job of governing ...
