News — Senators Give Standing Ovation to Stevens Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) received a standing ovation from his colleagues and praise from the leaders of both parties after he gave his final speech on the floor of the Senate. Stevens lost his bid for an eighth term to Democrat Mark Begich just weeks after he was convicted on charges that he took about $250,000 in gifts from a businessman and failed to disclose them to the Senate.
