Shep Smith Tells The Truth
The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan —
Shep Smith sums up in remarkable clarity what I sometimes use too many words to say. Thank God he's there. This is America. And for Americans to be discussing if torture worked - if it worked - is staggering.

Shepard Smith Tells Fox Host: We Are America! We Do Not Fucking Torture!
News Hounds —
I hope you will all join me in giving Fox News host Shepard Smith a virtual standing ovation for his emphatic, no-holds-barred stance against torture. We've been sent two YouTube videos of Smith. One on his own show, Studio B, where he much less excitedly told his guests, “We are America. We don't torture. And the moment that is not the case, I want off the train.” On The Strategy Room, an online show, Smith pounded on the table and said vehemently, “We are America! I don't give a rat's ass if it helps! We do not fucking torture!” With video.
On Studio B, Smith's guest Judith Miller, the disgraced former New York Times reporter, said, “Enhanced interrogation techniques, ...
David Quigg: Don't Let Cheney Pick the Battlefield
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
My posts sometimes go on a bit.
Tonight will be different. My point is simple: We cannot let Dick Cheney set the terms of America's debate about torture.
The former vice president is calling on President Obama to release more secret documents. Cheney claims Obama is hiding proof that waterboarding and other disgraceful interrogation techniques yielded intelligence that proved "enormously valuable in terms of saving lives and preventing another mass-casualty attack on the US."
Now, there are any number of ways of responding to this claim. The editorial board of the New York Times went with this response:
"Mr. Cheney claims ...
Applause: Shep Smith Drops F-Bomb On FOX
Politics Daily —
Filed under: Bush Administration, Barack Obama, Featured Stories, Media, Viral VideoFOX News anchor Shep Smith let lose with what many in America are thinking about the current debate roiling over whether torture is ever justified. His passion on the matter is palpable, and led him to use language that some viewers may find offensive: The "f-bomb" aside, the real story here is Smith's underlying point: This is America, we don't torture. We should not be using interrogation techniques designed by Communist China and Nazi Germany. They are morally wrong. Period. For those ...

VIDEO: Shepherd Smith UNPLUGGED Shepherd Smith got a little riled up last night. Appearing on Fox News' online show "The Strategy Room," Smith let loose on Trace Gallagher when Gallagher suggested harsh interrogation tactics might be effective. "WE ARE AMERICA!" Smith exclaimed, pounding the table. "I don't give a rat's ass if it helps! We are America! We do not f***ing torture!" A few moments later, Smith composed himself. "Oops," he said. WATCH:
A lively night on Fox News
Political Animal —
A LIVELY NIGHT ON FOX NEWS.... It's not a news network, it has no ethical standards, it makes a mockery of modern journalism, it lies to its audience, and it's largely responsible for the confusion of millions of Americans about current events. On the other hand, once in a while Fox News can be lively. First up was an unusual moment with Shep Smith, who was hosting a discussion about torture. The "discussion" (I use the word loosely) turned to the efficacy of illegal abuse of detainees in American custody. Naturally, a Fox News analyst defended torture, saying, "This stuff helped." Smith, fuming, couldn't take it anymore. Banging his hand against the table, Smith shouted, "We are ...
Fox News Figures Slam Torture on Online Show, When Will Fox Let Them on Cable?
Matthew Yglesias —
This is great anti-torture stuff from two high-profile regular Fox News commentators. The only problem is that it’s being kept on a little-watched online show, rather than on Fox News’ regular programming:
Keeping this guys off the air is a national disaster. At the end of the day, this is the way you could build a national consensus against torture. The fact that conservative media figures with credibility to conservative audiences have apparently sound anti-torture views is something the audience for conservative cable news needs to hear. But as best I can tell, Fox is making sure ...
Shep condemns torture; drops F bomb
Michael Calderone's Blog —
Fox's Shepard Smith was all fired up yesterday over the just-released torture memos.
On Fox web program, "The Strategy Room," he unloaded: "We are America. I don't give a rat's ass if it helps. We are America. We do not f--king torture. We don't do it."
And as the Huffington Post noted, Smith also condemned torture on the air with Judy Miller and Cliffy May.
"We are America, we don't torture! And the moment that is not the case, I want off the train! This government is of, by, and for the people -- that means it's mine. That means -- I'm not saying what is torture, and what is not torture, but I'm ...

Shep flips out: “We do not f***ing torture!” posted at 3:25 pm on April 23, 2009 by Allahpundit Send to a Friend | Share on Facebook | printer-friendly From yesterday’s “Strategy Room,” a candid if predictable reaction to Blair’s admission that enhanced interrogation works: “I don’t give a rat’s ass if it helps!” Most of the mindless absolutism on this subject has come from the left; nice to see Shep upholding the tradition. Pew’s out with a poll today that I’m reluctant to link because the margin of error by party is so huge (eight points in the case of the GOP), but for what it’s worth, 49 percent of the public thinks torturing terrorists is ...

Shepard Smith: "We are America! We do not fucking torture!"
The Reaction —
By Michael J.W. Stickings It was on Colbert last night, and it's been making the rounds. Here's Fox News' Shep Smith taking a definitively un-conservative line on torture. Of course, he's wrong. America does torture. Or, at least, it did, under Bush. And it's not like Smith is arguing, as some conservatives are (like his colleague Bill O'Reilly), that waterboarding, say, isn't torture. Smith is pretty clear that even if it worked -- it meaning torture, the enhanced interrogation techniques -- it's wrong, ...

I've got a new "Think Again" column called "The DHS Report: Torturing the Truth" here and I've got a new Nation column about the New York Times Company, the Boston Globe and the craziness of the current situation in the newspaper business called "The Newspaper Biz: More Poison Please?" here Also, here on the Daily Beast, I criticize a Times story that pretends to be about Obama selling out but in fact is about the fact that the Times chose to put a story on its front page that has a theme but absolutely no substance. And in this piece I refute yet another round of sloppy and misleading charges that Izzy Stone was a spy. And today I did this ...

In a 5-4 vote, the decision in the FCC v.
