McCain ad: “Sweat Equity”
Hot Air » Top Picks — McCain ad: “Sweat Equity” posted at 7:20 am on October 22, 2008 by Ed Morrissey Send to a Friend | printer-friendly John McCain knows how to use a winning message. The latest McCain ad is titled “Sweat Equity”, but it just as easily could be called “I Am Spartacus”: BARACK OBAMA: I think when you spread the wealth around it’s good for everybody. WOMAN: I’m Joe the plumber. WOMAN: I’m Joe the plumber. WOMAN: I’m Joe the plumber. ANNCR: Spread the wealth? MAN: I’m supposed to work harder… MAN: Just to pay more taxes. MAN: Obama wants my sweat to pay for his trillion dollars in new spending? WOMAN: I’m Joe the plumber. ...

I'm Joe
Confederate Yankee — I'm Joe That's the theme of this new McCain ad. Hot Air has the transcript and Ed dubs this the "I am Spartacus" ad, for good reason : The Spartacus theme resonates on a couple of different levels. First, we have everyone identifying with a beleaguered hero as a way of supporting him, but let’s also recall the circumstances of Spartacus. Spartacus led a rebellion of slaves against the government that oppressed them. Joe the Plumber has led a rebellion against an oppressive governing philosophy that erodes the notion of private property and would make taxpayers into serfs to the lords of Washington DC. That kind of message ...

"I'm Joe the Plumber"
Jonathan Martin's Blog — As I reported yesterday, McCain's camp goes up this morning in "key states" with a new spot hammering Obama on taxes and spending, portraying "Joe the Plumber" as everyman. Or, in an effort to cut into that gender gap, everywoman, too.    "Sweat Equity" is a negative spot, but this is much more on the issue-based terrain that the candidate prefers and a far cry from their previous anti-Obama ad, in which they accused the Democrat of being "dishonorable" and having little regard for U.S. troops.

The Early Word: The Ad Wars
The Caucus — Shifts in advertising buys from state to state signal a candidate’s strategy. The Times’s Jim Rutenberg reports that the McCain campaign is scaling back its ad buys in key states: New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Colorado, Maine and Minnesota. Mr. Rutenberg writes: “Democrats were predicting Mr. McCain would use the savings to increase his advertising in Pennsylvania and, possibly, Ohio and Florida, all of which have become that much more vital should Mr. McCain have to concede states like Colorado and Wisconsin.” The McCain campaign is out with a new television ad this morning called “Sweat Equity” featuring small business ...

Political Radar — Previous | Main The Note: Palin Well-Dressed -- but Not Wearing as Well October 22, 2008 8:59 AM ABC News' Rick Klein reports in Wednesday's Note: A lucky 13 days out, we’re wondering: Do the votes in real America count differently than those in fake America? Where do real Americans shop ? Is it better for Team McCain to waste time and money on Pennsylvania, or to waste whatever enthusiasm would vanish if the GOP wasn’t playing offense anywhere? Will bashing the media win John McCain a single, real-life vote he wouldn’t have already gotten? Read the rest of The Note -- ...

Joe-the-Plumbers Trash Obama's Economic Plans in McCain Ad
The Hill's Blog Briefing Room — Joe-the-Plumbers Trash Obama's Economic Plans in McCain Ad A new ad from John McCain features several people saying "I am Joe the Plumber," then criticizing Barack Obama's tax and spending proposals. McCain asked supporters two days ago to make 30-second videos explaining why they are "Joe the Plumber," a reference to Joe Wurzelbacher, the Toledo, Ohio plumber who asked Obama about his tax plan on a campaign stop and was subsequently made famous by McCain during the final presidential debate. The Joe-the-Plumbers in the new ad appear to be professionaly filmed.

'Sweat Equity' - New McCain Ad
Politics Daily — Filed under: Ads, John McCain, 2008 PresidentJohn McCain's campaign has a new :30 second ad airing today titled "Sweat Equity." The ad could have just as easily been called "Joe the Plumber." Man or woman on the street spots can be very powerful. This spot uses a little bit of that magic but ends up being too muddled and mixed to really push a break-through message.   Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Owning The Tax Issue
Comments from Left Field — No political campaign is perfect.  They are ran by people, and thus are prone to mistakes.  Even the very best political campaigns will goof every once in a while. But if there was ever a political campaign that has earned the right to write a text book primer on how to run a campaign, I think Obama’s is that campaign. While Team Obama has undoubtedly had its share of missteps, they have done an awful lot of things right, so much so that we have seen their opponents flustered in frustration trying to figure out first how the rookie jumped ahead of them, and then how on earth to make a come ...

Althouse — Said campaign finance expert Kenneth Gross about that $150,ooo the Republican National Committee spent on clothes and accessories for Sarah Palin. Campaign 08: Plumber Fixation
The Nation: Top Stories — One thing you've got to say about John McCain and his campaign gimmicks: He will blithely hold onto them like a pinless grenade until they blow up in his face--as he did with the Palin pick for veep, the "suspension" of his campaign for the bailout, and now, of course, Joe the Plumber. McCain might yet get the real Joe Wurzelbacher to cut an ad for him, but in the meantime, the candidate has found a bunch of other oppressed "just folks" to swear that they are all Spartacus, too: It's worth remembering that these hard-working folks who are loathe to "spread the wealth" won't see a tax hike unless they clear more than a quarter of a ...

Obama Is in Indiana. McCain's New Ad Is Too.
The Caucus — INDIANAPOLIS – When Senator Barack Obama awoke on Thursday morning in a downtown hotel here, a new television commercial from Senator John McCain was on the air just in time for Mr. Obama’s latest trip to Indiana. The ad, titled “Sweat Equity,” stood out in the flood of political commercials that are running on television stations in Indianapolis and across the country. In the course of a few hours, the ad ran multiple times across multiple stations, crisply delivering the McCain campaign’s assertion that Mr. Obama would redistribute wealth in America. The ad opens with an image of – what else? – Mr. Obama talking to Joe Wurzelbacher ...

McCain Now Advertising On Network TV In Indiana
TPM Election Central — An Indiana reader reports to us that John McCain is now up on the air on network TV in Indiana -- a significant development, because it suggests that McCain is being forced to spend valuable cash on defense in yet another red state as time runs out. Tim Horst, a church musician, says he saw McCain's "Joe the Plumber" ad -- which attacks Obama on taxes -- running on WEVV, a CBS affiliate in southern Indiana, for the first time this morning. That's network TV, not national cable, so the spot represents a buy in Indiana. Previously, the Republican National Committee had been advertising Indiana, but the McCain campaign ...

Funny I didn't see your concern when the Murdoch media was trying to destroy Bill Ayers' life." You make an excellent point, T.S.!
