Tax Attack With Celebrity Theme
The Page by Mark Halperin — New McCain TV ad to “air in key states” slams Obama hard on taxes, gas prices, and readiness to lead. Click above to watch. Arizonan’s campaign stays on slashing themes of the last few weeks. ...

New McCain Ad: "Celebrity" Obama Is Also The "Taxman"
TPM Election Central — The McCain camp is out with yet another "celeb" sneer ad, this one drawing a shap contrast between Obama's allegedly vacuous popularity and the possession of real leadership qualities: "Celebrity? Yes. Ready to lead? No." The ad somehow figures out a way of pinning higher gas prices on Obama's forthcoming tax hikes (in fact, he's calling for a middle-class tax cut), without explaining how it is that we now have soaring gas prices, even though Obama's phantom tax hikes haven't been implemented yet. The spot is running in "key states," according to the McCain ...

McCain: 'Taxman'
Ben Smith's Blog — McCain's new ad goes after Obama on taxes. Unlike previous ads, it doesn't explicitly conflate his plan to raise taxes on the rich with raising taxes on everyone else (though it will probably be heard that way), and it keeps up the "celebrity" attack. It also leans on the Wall Street Journal edit board as "the press," as in: "The press warns: 'The taxman cometh.'" ALSO: McCain aide Rick Davis says the campaign has spent an impressive $60 million on paid media so far this campaign, having raised $27 million last month, with the RNC raising $26 million.

McCain heads back to the ‘celebrity’ well for the 736th time
Political Animal — It must be rather frustrating for the McCain campaign to have so few honest arguments to make. I can sympathize — if I worked for McCain, I’m not sure what I’d do to sell this clunker of a campaign to the public, either. Looking at the McCain gang’s latest ad, it’s painfully obvious that this team has decided the only way to win is to deceive as many voters as possible. The voice-over tells the viewer, “Celebrity? Yes. Ready to lead? No. Obama’s new taxes could break your family budget. The press warns the ...

McCain Ad Slams Obama Tax Plan as "Economic Disaster"
44 — Ad Watch McCain Ad Slams Obama Tax Plan as "Economic Disaster" By Jonathan Weisman Just a day after Sen. Barack Obama put the finishing touches on his tax plan, Sen. John McCain released a new attack ad this morning predicting "economic disaster" if that plan come to pass. Combining the now familiar mockery of Obama's celebrity with the ongoing tax slam, the ad's announcer begins, "Celebrity? Yes. Ready to lead? No." The ad then goes on to say Obama's tax plan "could break your family budget," raise prices at the gas pump, and is a "recipe for economic disaster." "That's the real Obama," the announcer concludes. Analysis: ...

McCain Keeps Hitting Obama on Taxes in New Ad
News — McCain Keeps Hitting Obama on Taxes in New Ad John McCain's latest TV ad picks up where his last one left off–hitting Barack Obama on taxes. "Obama's new taxes could break your family budget," a narrator tells viewers, calling Obama's tax policies "a recipe for economic disaster." The ad will air in "key states" according to the McCain camp.

Real Clear Politics - TIME.com — The McCain campaign released a new TV ad today that rips Obama on taxes, something it also did in a radio ad released a week ago. A press release stated that the ad would run "in key states."... ...

McCain Camp: Obama Too Extreme And Too Moderate On Taxes
The Huffington Post | Full News Feed — The Republicans' line of attack against Barack Obama is obvious today: taxes. But exactly what kind of attack they mean to mount against the Illinois Democrat on the issue is less clear. Is he a shifty poll-watcher who moderates his positions in order to reflect the public's will, or a radical bent on taxing poor families into the dirt no matter what? Reporters could see evidence of each attack, which taken in tandem appear contradictory, in their inboxes Friday morning. First, Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant sent reporters a few press clippings with the subject line "Obama's ...

McCain keeps up celeb-tax-energy drumbeat
Jonathan Martin's Blog — McCain's campaign goes up today with a new ad in their targeted states that again frames Obama as a celebrity who wants to make life difficult for average Americans.  "Taxman," much like the campaign's last ad, "Painful," contrasts images of Obama and his cheering crowds with families who will purportedly be hurt by the Democrat's views on taxes and energy.

New McCain ad: “Taxman”
Hot Air » Top Picks — New McCain ad: “Taxman” posted at 10:45 am on August 15, 2008 by Ed Morrissey Send to a Friend | printer-friendly The John McCain campaign released its latest TV ad today, a straightforward negative (or comparative) spot called “Taxman”. When McCain hasn’t hit at Obama’s celebrity since the World Tour, he’s hammered him on tax and spending policies, and this follows in both veins: Celebrity? Yes. Ready to lead? No. Obama’s new taxes could break your family budget. The press warns the “taxman cometh”. Obama’s taxes mean “higher prices at the pump”. Obama’s taxes a “recipe for economic disaster”. Higher taxes. ...

McCain Hits Obama On Taxes
Say Anything — With a new campaign ad: Transcript: Celebrity? Yes. Ready to lead? No. Obama’s new taxes could break your family budget. The press warns the “taxman cometh”. Obama’s taxes mean “higher prices at the pump”. Obama’s taxes a “recipe for economic disaster”. Higher taxes. Higher gas prices. Economic disaster. That’s the real Obama. Meanwhile Obama is apparently worried enough about being cast as a tax-and-spend liberal that he is backing away from his big-tax ways. ...

The Taxman Cometh
Power Line — I've only once in my life said anything really clever. Quite a few years ago, I was at a wedding; the ceremony was over and a guy came along with handfuls of rice to throw at the bride and groom. I turned to a young woman I was with and, in a moment of inspiration, said, "The riceman cometh." That aside is only loosely related to this post, which is about a new McCain ad on a subject close to my heart: "Taxman." It's a good ad and will air in swing states as well as on the web: Note, though, that the ad includes white women! More racism from the McCain campaign, apparently.

McCain Slimes Again; Obama Fades
The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan — McCain recycles the celebrity charge, sans Paris, and removes his lie about Obama's raising taxes on people earning $42,000 a year (while never acknowledging that it was a lie in the first place). But the personal demonization of Obama, and raising fears about his somehow being responsible for raising gas prices are pure demagoguery. The ad is particularly nauseating when you remember how the Rove GOP used to attack McCain for his ertwhile fiscal conservatism (since abandoned). McCain has become - and how swiftly - what he once derided. I fear it will work, however. Since Obama's hubris in Berlin, he has lost almost ...

New Ads: 1, 2, "Punch"
The Caucus — Between the two campaigns, three new ads have debuted over the past two days, with one from each on taxes (both focusing on Senator Barack Obama’s proposals). Starting Monday, “Three Bedroom Ranch” will run nationwide on cable and during the Olympics. It offers his “economic blueprint,” almost literally, in outlining his plan for the middle class as a house is being constructed. “It begins with a plan. A plan to build. A plan to put hard working Americans first,” says an announcer, before text and images on the screen address his goals of offering working families a $1,000 tax cut and investing in alternative energy. Senator John ...

No More Mister Nice Blog — "CELEBRITY" = (FILL IN THE BLANK): McCAIN'S ONLY MESSAGE FROM NOW UNTIL NOVEMBER Greg Sargent thinks it's "bizarre" that he just received this via blast-fax from the McCain campaign: You know you may just be a global celebrity when you get this headline in Reuters, "Obama Takes Shirt Off Again, Goes Body Surfing In Hawaii." (That's a real headline, by the way -- yes, it actually is news when a guy takes off his shirt on a beach in Hawaii in August.) And Steve Benen sees a desperate effort to sell a "clunker of a campaign" in this new McCain ad, which has the ...

McCain: "The Taxman Cometh"
Who's Wrong Today — McCain released the latest in his series of celebrity ads (they must be working for him to keep making them): This of course is not the first time that Republicans have made this claim. I did some research and it seems pretty clear to me that the tax increases Obama is proposing apply only to those making over 250 thousand dollars a year. He has even said that the proposed capital gains tax increase would only apply to those making over $250,000. Taxes is of course a complicated issue, so if the McCain camp has an explanation for how exactly Obama would raise taxes ...

Dissecting McCain, Obama campaign ads
The Swamp — by Amanda Erickson Welcome to this week's edition of Swamp Clearing, where we dig into some of the week's biggest talking points to bring you the truth, at least as far as we can tell. This week, in honor of what's become an increasingly mean-spirited presidential campaign, we dissect two political ads - one from likely Republican nominee John McCain (Ariz.), and one from his Democratic opponent Barack Obama (Ill.). First, to McCain. Friday, he released a new ad called ...

McCain's Website Needs An Obama Tax Hike Calculator!
RedState: Conservative News and Community — This Should Be A Gimme So I spent a little time noodling around the McCain campaign website, and maybe this is buried deep in the site somewhere and I missed it, but shouldn't the site have a place where you can calculate, even roughly, how much Obama's tax hike plans will cost you? Certainly taxes is a huge issue, being a hardy GOP perennial, an issue on which Obama has been backtracking, and the focus of several of McCain's recent ads, like this one: I recall the tax cut calculator being a popular feature of Bush's site in 2000, ...

Baseball Crank — So I spent a little time noodling around the McCain campaign website, and maybe this is buried deep in the site somewhere and I missed it, but shouldn't the site have a place where you can calculate, even roughly, how much Obama's tax hike plans will cost you? Certainly taxes is a huge issue, being a hardy GOP perennial, an issue on which Obama has been backtracking, and the focus of several of McCain's recent ads, like this one: I recall the tax cut calculator being a popular feature of Bush's site in 2000, back in the Stone Age of web ...

Hide The Message
Classical Values — Hide The Message James Carville , Bill Clinton's political strategist and a pretty smart guy, says the Democrats need to get on message. If they can find one. (CNN) -- Have the Democrats wasted the first night of the convention? Yes, says Democratic Strategist and CNN contributor James Carville. Speaking on CNN, Carville said the party was too soft in its attacks on John McCain Monday night -- the same mistake, Carville says, Democrats made at the 2004 convention. "The way they planned it tonight was supposed to be sort of the personal -- Michelle Obama will talk about Barack Obama personally, Ted Kennedy was a very ...

Obama Camp: McCain's Latest "Celeb" Ad Is "False And Discredited"TPM Election Central
Here's the response from Obama spokesperson Hari Sevugan to McCain's ad from this morning calling Obama a "celebrity" and the "taxman": "This ad is just more of the same old false and discredited attacks that Senator McCain knows aren't true. Senator McCain will say or do anything to hide the truth: while Obama will cut taxes for the middle class, McCain will give a billion dollars in new ...
