GOP Turning House into a Zoo
MyDD —
For those not currently watching C-SPAN, which is recommended watching at present, the Republicans are trying to turn the House of Representatives into a zoo in an effort to impede debate over healthcare reform. At present, they are interrupting every short speech by a group of Democratic women legislators. The Joe Wilsonification of the GOP continues... Tempers flare in House debate
News —
The House debate on healthcare got testy this morning, as Republicans repeatedly interrupted and objected to Democrats' remarks A group of female Democratic lawmakers were using a procedural manuever--asking unanimous consent to extend their remarks--to add a comment or two about the effect of healthcare reform on women. Upset Republicans asked Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.), who was presiding over the House, to grant an additional 30 minutes of debate to each party. When Dingell turned that request down, GOPers began to continually object to the Democratic speeches. See an example below, captured by Media Matters. ...
HCR House Debate: Hissy Fits on an Historic Day
Daily Kos —
If you watched any of the Rules Committee, you saw quite a show put on by Republicans. It's only continuing today, and was particularly obnoxious this morning while the House Democratic women were speaking. Here's just a sliver of what we have to look forward to today. In another effort to try to derail this plan, Greg Sargent reports that Republicans are trying to cook up trouble around immigration. Now, the immigration standoff: The GOP leadership hasn’t decided whether to insert language banning undocumented workers from buying insurance. The issue is whether the House ...
"I Object": Tom Price Tries To Shut Down Democratic Congresswomen (VIDEO)
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
On Saturday morning, a group of House Republicans -- led by Rep. Tom Price (R-Georgia) -- attempted to stop the Democratic Women's Caucus from making their arguments about how the health bill would benefit women by screaming over them.
Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.) only had time to say "Mr. Speaker, I ask unanimous consent to--," before Price shouted "I object." The presiding chair, Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) made gestures to maintain control, declaring that "the request is not yet before the House" and that Price was "out of order," to little effect. Capps attempted to go on, but Price continued shouting "I object! I object! I object!" ...
Today's Health Care Reform Debate
DownWithTyranny! —
This evening the House will vote on whether or not to pass the historic-- if very imperfect-- health care reform bill. It could have been so much better. But to appreciate how good it is, just look at the Republican alternative joke bill that John Boehner, Roy Blunt and Paul Ryan put forward. We don't often laud Debbie Wasserman Schultz here but she hit the nail on the head when she dubbed it the "Health Insurance Company Protection Act." Here's what the GOP is offering in the place of meaningful health care reform: • The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says it would barely make a dent in most of our premiums, and could lead to higher ...
House Health Care Reform Voting Begins At 9:30
Delaware Liberal —
If you’ve been following the news today, you probably know that the House health care reform bill, H.R. 3962 is coming to a vote tonight, probably around 9:30 PM. If you’ve been following (watch at C-SPAN ) you probably know that there’s been hours worth of braindead commercial-worthy moments. One of the worst was the group of Republican men who kept interrupting the House Democratic Women’s Caucus when they tried to speak about how health care reform will affect women. And Republicans wonder why there’s a gender gap in voting. In another cringeworthy moment Rep. Steve King tells us that everyone has health care, they simply have to go to the Emergency Room.
