21st Century University Protests: Re-Defining “Consensus” As Lazy Anarchy
Listen to this drivel. This dumb-ass kid throws around words like consensus, facilitator, hierarchy, power relationship … and then there is some sort of problem with showing campus I.D.? Duhhhh, you dumb-assed puke! See, this is why kids like this one work so well at a Starbucks. They memorize the made-up words on the menu board and twist and turn them around in various combinations like some Rubik’s Cube and feel as though they really have accomplished something with this new foreign language called … coffee.
And of course, ...

"We Would Like to Democratically Decide in a Consensus Area... Excuse Me Sir, Please Do Not Use Brutality" This fucker is more annoying than "Don't Tase Me Bro" dude. The background is that some fuckheads barricaded themselves in an NYU cafeteria, making various demands, including disclosure of the budget, no more "subcontracted" workers like bus drivers, and scholarships for Palestinians. ...
Inane Radicalism Has Consequences

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 [image] Inane Radicalism Has Consequences [ Mark Hemingway ] I was in New York over the weekend and on a trip to The Strand in Union Square I overheard some people talking about the student protest at nearby NYU. I had no idea there was student protest going on, and wouldn't care except now I've seen the hilarious YouTube footage . As the students are essentially surrounded by cops for forcibly occupying a building at a private insitution, they're insisting "We're using democratic process here, I don't know if you guys understand that" and then as the cops are flooding in they're still insisting, "This is a student free space. You may not come ...

February 24, 2009 Protest FAIL You've all probably seen this, but it's just too good not to watch twice. Exit question: Since when is an expensive Mac laptop, video camera and iPod standard gear for "revolutionaries?" It must be expensive to have these products of capitalism and to be a "leftist revolutionary" these days. Poor little guys. Play time's over, hippies. You're outta here. Allahpundit says the final moments of this student standoff, (background here) falls “far over the line into self-parody” ……he’s right:
A commenter at NYU Local sums it all up, nicely:
‘You guys are all corporationey, and we’re using consensus and ...

Last week, a handful of student radicals at NYU attempted to occupy a building. The event wound down with a whine:
If these guys are the future of leftist activism, we have nothing to worry about.

Sadly, last week’s great snack-bar takeover at NYU came to an end after only three days. The courageous (if minuscule) group of students who occupied the food court in NYU’s Kimmel Center really spoke truth to power, demanding, among other things: “The establishment of a student elected Socially Responsible Finance Committee....An in depth investigation of all investments in war and genocide profiteers, as well as companies profiting from the occupation of Palestinian territories...annual scholarships for thirteen Palestinian students,” and, hilariously, “that the general public have access to Bobst Library.” And they faced the consequences. No, they weren’t gassed, tazered, ...

There are people who cry out to be clubbed. If you don't agree, maybe the video below will convince you.
First, Hot Air sets the scene:
A student group holed up in the campus cafeteria [at New York University] last week for three days with a list of demands including, among various other items, scholarships for Palestinian students, greater budgetary transparency, and complete amnesty for themselves, of course. On day three, NYU got bored with taking them semi-seriously and moved to end it.
Without further ado… ...
NYU Punks Get One-Week Suspension
JammieWearingFool —
Oh so harsh, one can only wonder if they'll survive the brutal punishment meted out. Maybe they should bring the ACLU in to help negotiate down these conditions . The now infamous 18 Take Back NYU protesters who were the final holdouts during last week’s occupation — since called the “Kimmel 18” (maybe with too great a hint of heroics) — have been offered a deal from the university which they must decide to accept or reject today. For those who do not accept, suspensions will be retained until they are tried in a judicial hearing where punishments traditionally tend to be more severe. Let’s consider the damage done: an estimated financial impact of over $80,000, including the ...

Every Voice Matters in the Consensus Based House Meetings
Weekly Standard Blog —
While looking for an apartment in D.C. on craigslist, I stumbled upon one advertisement for an opening in a "progressive group house" in Adams Morgan. It's not a parody, but it is beyond parody. If you're "a woman of color who is vegetarian friendly" you just might be lucky enough to live with housemates whose "opinions about the issues of the day – as well as spirituality, religion, vegetarianism – are diverse, which leads to wonderfully thoughtful conversations" -- if they do say so themselves. If that didn't already have you sold:
We have a communal kitchen. This means that all food is available for anyone, unless it is marked for a special occasion (reserved ...
