It's worth noting that the McCain campaign's claim that Pennsylvania is within reach -- and could be key to a McCain victory -- has prompted outside groups allied with McCain to really get serious about hosing down the state with slime. The Pennsylvania GOP has put up a new ad tying Barack Obama to Jeremiah Wright, the first party effort to hit the Democrat on his controverisal pastor.
TPM spotted it.
McCain has refused to invoke Wright or allow his campaign to use the pastor in ads. A senior campaign aide said they knew nothing about the Pennsylvania party's ad in advance. Officials with the state party didn't respond to an email.
What is unknown is, with two days until the election, if it is an actual buy or merely a ploy to spike fundraising and win media coverage.
