TPMtv: Dazed and Confused
Talking Points Memo —
To me, the presidential race reached a turning point last week when John McCain opted for a campaign of denigration employing racial stereotypes, sexualized talking points for surrogates (Obama as "internet date") and copious ridicule. It's made the curve that much of the media still uses to grade McCain's more obvious shortcomings all the more conspicuous and significant ...

TPM's 'Dazed And Confused.' I've been noticing that McCain is amping up in his recent live appearances (check the clips from Sturgis that bookend this video), and I have to assume that he's doing so upon advice from his handlers. But when McCain tries to do high-energy, he sputters like a Model T that's low on gas. If his minders are telling him to keep the energy level up in his appearances, I hope they keep doing it. The louder McCain gets, the more completely unhinged he sounds.

10 Reasons For The False Media Narrative of A "Tied Campaign"
The media narrative of a tied campaign is yet another sign of the rightwing bias of the Versailles media, but it is not a simple phenomena. In fact, it has many contributing elements, each of which, in turn, is a result of rightwing influence combined with press laziness of at least distinct kinds--intellectual laziness, the habit of not thinking things through, and ordinary laziness, the habit of simply not bothering to check things out.
While I'm certain to have missed something, I've compiled a list of contributing factors to "campaign is tied" narrative. This list ...

McCain Goes Off The Deep End-Is Anyone Watching?
Open Left - Front Page —
In the last few days--as the confrontation between Georgia and Russia has flared-the McCain campaign has visibly slipped into wildly dangerous territory. The "McSame" label clearly no longer applies-McCain would not be like Bush's third term, he'd be much more like Cheney, completely unleashed. ...

In order to fully grasp what he's up too, there are five analytical frameworks that are particularly helpful to employ. I'm going to write about them more extensively this weekend.

Erik Ose: Is John McCain Mentally Fit To Be President?
Politics on HuffingtonPost.com —
In a breathtakingly puzzling move, John McCain on Friday showed terrible judgment by picking freshman Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate. Despite the spin that desperate Republicans immediately parroted, it wasn't a brilliant pick, or a game-changer. It was an amazingly bad choice.
Palin's shortcomings have been documented in an instant feeding frenzy among journalists and bloggers. She is the least known, least experienced VP choice in modern political history. Those who compare her to George H. W. Bush's choice of Dan Quayle in 1988 forget that Quayle had already served in Congress for 12 ...
An Ambien amnesia presidency
AMERICAblog News| A great nation deserves the truth —
So what exactly is going on with John McCain's health? John posted yesterday about McCain's "energy" drink and mentioned that McCain was taking Ambien. McCain's Ambien drug use isn't new, it's been covered by ABC News here, but in the flurry of the Democratic primary, I missed it. Reading it yesterday for the first time, my jaw dropped. While Ambien is a heavily advertised drug here in the US - $200 million annually in ad spending - it's extremely potent and has the potential to be addictive. That's why it's a D.E.A. Schedule IV controlled substance. In addition to the addictive qualities, Ambien ...
